Tuesday with Tara {take 27}

It’s the first Tuesday of 2016, so Happy New Year!  Today I have a simple tag to share with you that I hope gives a celebratory feeling for the new year!

I started with a black tag and the clockwork stencil by Tim Holtz.  I applied some Inka Gold (by Viva Decor) with a wet sponge through the stencil.  It had a few smudges, but I planned on adding flowers & bling so I didn’t worry about that too much…  The sentiment is another old fave of mine by Tim Holtz, stamped simply in black.

The Prima flowers & the sentiment panel were inked lightly with Distress Inks & bling was added- including a small corked vial filled with chunky glitter tied to a wide piece of sheer black ribbon.

Wishing you a new year that is full of beautiful moments… let’s all make them memorable!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Happy Tuesday!  Today I want to share with you one card in two colours.  The techniques, materials and layout are essentially the same for both cards, but I’ve played with two different colour schemes and they can be adjusted to your liking!

I chose the colours for my cards because I thought both would work with the bird stamps by Dina Wakely 🙂  The tags are simply the birds stamped in black and colored in with acrylic paints which were watered down slightly.  The splotches you see on the tags were created by dabbing the tag on the ink remaining on my craft sheet after inking up crinkle ribbon.

The background was created from a larger piece of cardstock (I used a half sheet of regular cardstock) which I layered some crinkled tissue paper, torn paper, tissue/washi tape, and texture paste applied through stencils.  Once that was dry, I painted over it with several shades of acrylic paint, thin enough so that some of the texture could be seen through it.  I highlighted the textures by rubbing black ink over the dried piece and spraying metallic sprays onto it (like Rangers Perfect Pearl Mist and some from Lindy’s Stamp Gang).  Once everything was dry, I cut it up into assorted sizes and created cards!

Here’s the second colour scheme I used:

I hope you like the two different takes on these techniques and this card- it’s a lot of fun (and you can make several cards from the background collage sheet that you create.  Perhaps I’ll share with you some of the others I made on another future post… 😉

Hope you have a creative week!  I’d love to see what you come up with if you decide to make something inspired by these cards!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 12}

Happy Tuesday!  Today is all about inky play… I sat down with my new Brewed Espresso Distress Ink (plus some of the other new colors of 2015 that haven’t moved from my work space yet) and some Dina Wakley stencils/masks that needed some play time (Affirmations & Leaves.  Pretty sure the heart is from another set, that’s maybe discontinued?) and I started laying down some color over the masks.  Once I’d mixed greens and blues (my happy colours!) I decided to deepen things up with some deep brown… this Espresso Distress Ink really is lovely!  I applied Distress Ink through the affirmations stencil, but did not move the stencil immediately.  I put some translucent embossing paste right over the brown ink with my palette knife… I love how shiny and intense the color is once it dried!  Yum!  It reminds me a bit of hard candy 🙂

Part of me is undecided if this is a finished card front or not… but I wasn’t happy with anything I tried to add, so for now I will call it complete!  I think I may have to purchase some new dies to finish it off the way I imagine it… 😉

Hope you’re inspired to try some inky play this week!  Take something new or just under-used, and use it to get some ink on paper.  Allow yourself to combine products and colours and see where it takes you!  Have some inky fun!

Inky hugs,

Tara
