Tuesday with Tara {take 34}

Happy Tuesday!  I’m pretty excited because today I get to show you a project with a product that is coming soon to the store… and you are going to LOVE them if you haven’t already tried them and fallen in love!  That’s right, Color Burst by Ken Oliver is coming soon, and they are a fabulous powdered watercolor medium that you can do all sorts of techniques with.  I had the opportunity to take a class with Ken Oliver and we created some larger pieces, one of which was finished on a 12×12 canvas.  Today I’m showing you that piece, even though I haven’t quite decided if I will be adding more to finish it yet… here’s what I made:

We started with creating a lighter colored watercolor background on a large piece of watercolor paper, then added depth with deeper colors through a stencil.  Lots of water spritzing, dripping and a bit of detail added with a wet paintbrush… here’s some close ups of the fabulous bursts of color pigments:

I actually haven’t decided yet which way is UP on my piece, and plan to add a word or quote in the “solid” panel, which will determine the direction I suppose!  Here’s another angle:

I do love it as it is though!  And really need to add a feather stencil to my collection… but for now I have a chance for YOU to add one to yours!   Leave a comment on THIS blog post telling me your favorite COLOR!  Earn an extra chance to win by commenting on the pinned post on our facebook page as well!

Here’s the stencil that could be arriving soon in your mailbox (it’s on my wish list!):

I look forward to hearing from you this week!  Have a creative day!

Tuesday with Tara {take 33}

Happy Tuesday!  Today I have TWO cards to share with you that feature the same stamps & basic elements, done in two ways to give a masculine and feminine feel, ready to contribute the the card stash for when you need them!  First there’s some business to attend to… I need to thank everyone who commented on last week’s blog post and announce the winner of the Dylusions Stencil 🙂

The winner is…

Jocelyn Sun

Congrats, Jocelyn!  Thanks for your comment 🙂  Please contact us and let us know where we can send your stencil 🙂

The stamp set I’ve used is an older fave of mine called Get Well Soon by Lawn Fawn.  I stamped the turtle (my fave image in the set!) a couple times and colored it up quickly with Distress Markers.  Once my image was dry, I added Ranger’s Crackle Accents to his shell and set them aside to dry.  Love the simple details this adds!

The background of my cards is a fun one by Hero Arts, stamped simply with Distress Ink to match the patterned papers I was using (the ones on this first card are by Basic Grey.  I added simple details like a border punch and washi tape.  The sentiment is stamped on a small manila tag that had been printed on with an inky stencil and water.  Note the top of the tag was cut off on this card and used as a tab on the left side of the card 🙂

My second card is very similar, but simpler than the first card to give a more masculine feel.  I left the tag whole and mounted it simply on a black cardstock panel.

You can see the Crackle Accents details better in this final photo!

Hope you like my cards and that the winter weather doesn’t have you feeling like you need someone to send you a get well cards!  Have a creative week!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 32 & a chance to WIN}

Happy Tuesday!  It’s been a bit of a challenge for me getting this post together this week, but I’m happy to say HOORAY if you are reading this and it is actually still Tuesday 🙂  Valentine’s Day is right around the corner so I have one more Valentine to share with you this week… plus a chance for you to win one of the fabulous Dylusions Heart Stencils that I used on my project!  I think that’s worth another HOORAY!
valentine2016 (2)

I had two new things I wanted to create with this week… the Dylusions heart stencil and Candied Apple Distress Ink that I finally got my hands on, just in time for Valentine’s Day, right!?  I started out just grabbing a tag and an ink applicator tool and getting some red ink on the tag.  I couldn’t wait to see what this new Distress Ink would look like and I was not disappointed, it’s yummy!  I inked a background text stamp in the same ink and stamped it over my entire tag.  Next, I got curious what would happen if I mixed some Media sterling silver paint in with some translucent 3D gloss gel… so I did a little blending of them on my craft sheet and swiped the combination through my heart stencil onto the tag.  I sprinkled a few micro beads onto the wet paste and set it aside to dry.   It turned out much like I hoped it would, looking very cool!  The paste picked up a bit of the red color from my background, giving it a slightly pink undertone.  I mixed up more than I needed, so tried out my mixture on a black tag as well… the silver really stands out here, and I only used a tiny bit in the mix!

valentine2016 (3) The rest of my tag isn’t all that complicated… I stamped out a ticket and playing card from some Tim Holtz stamps and coloured them very simply with Vintage Photo Distress Ink & Festive Berries Distress Marker.  Once they were trimmed, I arranged them together with some die cut hearts, a flower & some bling.  Seasonal Chit Chat stickers & some ribbon finish the tag!  Hope you like it!
