Quick and Easy Christmas Cards Using Cuttlebug Embossing Folders

Nothing says “Happy Holidays” like a handmade card or gift but sometimes it’s hard to find time to get them all made. So we thought we’d give you a little help with some quick and easy ideas for cards that are all made with Cuttlebug embossing folders and some basic supplies. None of these cards take more than 15 minutes to make and we’ve included a supply list and basic instructions for each one.

We hope they inspire you and make your life a little easier this holiday season.

PS You will find that we use 3D foam squares quite a bit on these cards and although you can do them without you will find that it adds a lot dimension and makes your cards have that extra “WOW” factor.

Now emboss the same piece with the Cuttlebug Snowflake embossing folder. Attach to the card front with 3D foam squares. Cut a snowflake from the Ice Gold Shimmer cardstock using the Ice Crystal die. Cut 3D foam squares into small piece and attach to back and then center and mount on the card front. Adhere rhinestone.

Can’t Get Enough of Those Nestabilities!

Cards from Crate Paper 5th Avenue Collection

I’ve been making a lot of cards lately and just keep going back to my Nesties to add that little bit of extra interest to the design. I used them on three of the four cards in this set to make the frames and scalloped mat and just loved how easy it was to use them. Before Nestabilities came along you would have had to do a lot of measuring and cutting with a craft knife to make a frame that looked like this which is why I generally avoided them. Not any more! Now I find myself adding frames and scalloped accents to all kinds of projects. I used my Big Shot to cut and emboss with the Nestabilities but you can also used them in your Cuttlebug.

These cards are very quick and easy to make. I used the double-sided papers from the Crate Paper 5th Avenue collection, raven and french vanilla cardstock from Bazzill, flowers, pearls, brads, gems & a little ribbon. The scroll corner accents were cut from raven cardstock with the Sizzlits Architectural Accents set and I used a Quickie glue pen to attach them.  I’ve found that this little pen is the best thing for adding just enough glue to adhere and the pen tip lets you put it on just where you want it. The Nestabilities sets that I used are the Classic Rectangles – Small S4-130 and the Classic Scalloped Rectangles – Small S4-131.

Here’s some pics of the individual cards to show you more detail. Hope they give you some ideas for your own set of cards.

More Cards Made with the NEW Cuttlebug A2 Embossing Folders & Combos

I just couldn’t stay away from all the new Cuttlebug embossing folders and combos! They are so much fun to work with. You know how it goes…one thing leads to another and pretty soon it’s 1 am and you can hardly keep your eyes open but it doesn’t matter because you’ve been in your own little world for the fast few hours and it’s all good.

Here are a few of my late night creations and there’s more on the way. They aren’t quite finished yet so they will have to wait for another post.

Enjoy! And…don’t forget that you can add comments to any of our posts – just use the box at the bottom. We love to hear from you.

card made with cuttlebug a2 embossing combo friends forever

I really liked how easy it was to make this card. The hardest part was keeping the ink on the embossed areas and I found that using a small foam tip applicator worked best for that. I used VersaMagic chalk inks in Pixie Dust and Sage because of the soft, matte finish that they give. Just remember, use a light touch and very litle ink when you are adding color to the embossed areas. You can alway add more if you need to. The saying and embossing folder come together in the Cuttlebug Friends Forever combo. There are six different combos and you can definitely mix and match between them. I found that the Bazzill cherry vanilla and aloe vera cardstocks worked great with these inks. A little pink rhinestone, some ribbon and it was done. Quick and easy.

One of the other A2 embossing folders that I couldn’t wait to try was the Floral Screen. The picture on the package doesn’t do it justice. The embossed image is great and worked really well on the next card.

For this card I chose French Vanilla cardstock and matted the embossed image with honeycomb and brown cardstock. The corner accents were cut from brown cardstock using one of the dies from the Cuttlebug Vintage set. And of course a little more inking, this time with VersaMagic wheat and pumpkin spice. I used the smallest dies in the Nestabilities Long Classic Rectangles and Long Classic Scalloped Rectangles to create the layers for the stamped saying which is from the Melissa Frances clear stamp set Simply Said. Instead of brads I opted for latte pearls. I think they went better with the overall look of the card.

Something I’d like to mention for anyone that is a beginner cardmaker is that one of th easiest ways to create a more interesting card is to pop up some of the layers with foam squares. It adds dimension and makes your cards look more polished. You don’t need to add them between every layer, just one and then pop up your embellishments with them too. You’ll be surprised at what a difference it will make.

And now, my last little card. And it is a little card. I had some scraps left from my assorted pack of Nostaligia Coredinations Color Core cardstock and I thought it would be fun to make a little note card that could be added to a bouquet of flowers or a gift bag.

card made with nestabilities and cuttlebug a2 embossing combo with gratitude

This little card was so quick and easy that I’m defninitely going to make a few to have on hand. A set of these in an altered clear top tin would make a really nice gift. So, how easy are they? Well, all you have to do is cut the notecard with second largest Nestabilitie in the Long Classic Scalloped Rectangle set and score and fold it in half. Then cut a white mat about 2 1/8″ x 2 1/8″ and adhere to the card. Now take a 2″ x 2″ piece of  a lighter color of the Coredinations cardstock and emboss it with the folder in the Cuttlebug With Gratitude combo. TNow comes the fun part. Sand off the embossed area to expose the colored core. Add a little Stickles Diamond glitter glue to the centers of the flowers. Mount it onto the card from with foam squares, tie and little ribbon and you’re done! It’s a great way to use up some of your bits and pieces that are left over from other projects and we all have a few of those.

Hope these cards give you some ideas and inspiration.
