Tuesday with Tara {take 56}

Happy Tuesday!  We are dealing with some intense heat where I’m at right now, the kind that makes this Canadian girl want to just hide inside where the AC is… and since it’s nearing the end of July, it’s time to try to mentally cool down and start thinking about Christmas in July!

ChristmasInJuly (2)

Today’s card is a small one- just 4×4 inches, which seemed like a perfect fit for this small oval design from a stamp set by Prickley Pear.  The frame was inked with two colors of Distress Ink and misted with water before it was stamped, then a sentiment was stamped inside with a coordinating Archival Ink.  I created a simple background on watercolor paper with a generous spritz of water and a few drops of Color Burst.  Just two colors creates such beautiful variety!  I finished off my card layering onto cardstock and stamping a coordinating snowflake stamp from the set, then added a few wooden snowflake embellishments, bling and Stickles glitter glue.

And that’s what I came up with for a Christmas card in July… it didn’t exactly cool me down, but it was a great way to spend time on a day that was just too hot for this Canadian girl to be outside!  This set of oval designs is a nice size that will be fun for small cards, perfect for giving with a little gift.

Christmas in July is a bit foreign to a lot of people, but I know for those of us who like to send cards, it’s time to start thinking about getting creative and making cards to give to our friends and loved ones 🙂  So, I hope you’ll take some time on a hot summer day and start creating!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 55}

Happy Tuesday!  I’ve got a quick & easy card for you today- a one layer lovely, which are very rare for me, but I saw a card that inspired it and it just didn’t seem to need anything else 🙂

love you one layer

All I’ve used for this card is a sentiment and the little flower bit stamps from the Avery Elle Oh Happy Day set I’ve been loving on lately, a selection of Distress Inks and a heart stencil (this one is by Dina Wakely).  It’s all stamped on an ivory card.  I used washi tape to adhere the stencil to my card front, then I started with the largest flower stamp and moved on from there to fill in the heart shape.  The rough texture you see here is a look you may be familiar with if you are using clear stamps without ‘priming’ them, but I kinda liked the look for this card.  (You’ll get a much crisper image if you ink your stamps in Archival black ink first, before stamping with water based ink.)

It’s a very simple card that you could really play around with a variety of color and stencil shapes as well 🙂

Hope you have a creative week!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 54}

Happy Tuesday!  Hope you’ve had a great week and found some time to create- I’ve been a bit short on creative time lately, but am taking time today to work on creative projects which I hope to share with y’all over the next few weeks!  Today I was inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest again, this one featured a stack of colored blocks behind a floral die cut.  My card doesn’t really resemble the one I saw there beyond that basic concept, but that’s half the fun of inspiration- seeing where it takes your projects 🙂wildflower blocks (2)

I had a one inch strip of watercolor paper with a bit of color on it from trimming something else, so I decided to add bits of yellow and green (a combination of Color Burst, Distress Crayons & Distress Ink!) and trim it into 1″ squares.  I cut several wildflower dies out of a pearly white cardstock and selected the largest one to go on this standard A2 sized card.  I played around with the placement of the squares until I was happy with them, then snapped a photo with my iphone so I could refer to it once I removed the flower & was ready for glue!  I decided on a pale yellow background and added a lightly inked (Lucky Clover Distress Ink) background stamp by Tim Holtz to give it a bit of texture.  Once it was all dry, I pulled out the glue and adhered my blocks and my flower over them (I used multi matte medium for this tiny detailed image & the sentiment).  A white word and a bit of bling finished off my card.

I had a few extra pieces left so I put together a little tag with them- it gives a more modern, crisp look on a simple kraft background.

It’s always nice to have a bonus project that takes less than 5 minutes to finish up 🙂

Hope the week ahead is filled with JOY for you… and peace for our world.  We could use some of both right now!

Inky hugs,

Tara
