Tuesday with Tara {take 419} holly hugs

Happy Tuesday!

I’m sharing a throwback post today, since I am currently on vacation with family!  Enjoy!

Today’s card started out very simple and grew into a vintage collage that I had so much fun putting together!  I knew I wanted to work with ribbon, so a wreath is a perfect way to display one.  This little one from Tim Holtz’s Wreath & Snowflake die set is really cute and I’d never even cut it out before!  I chose to layer together two wreaths, one from a (not quite big enough) piece of inked cardstock and the other is solid green.  I did the same with the berry dies and it gave me a nice variety to work with and pair with the crinkly ribbon bow.

Last time I used this set, it was for our ‘snow much fun’ blog hop (you can see my card on instagram or my blog) and I used the same die cut ‘hugs’ sentiment!  I’d cut it twice since I wasn’t sure which way I wanted my layers to go, so today’s card seemed like a perfect chance to use it.

Honestly, the rest of the card just kinda came together as I flipped through paper pads and stamps that were nearby on my messy workspace (seriously, has anyone got tips how to clean this mess up without getting distracted by all the pretty things?)…

The library card is from Vicky Boutin, the holly stamp is by Tim Holtz and the rest are old wooden stamps from Art Impressions & Hero Arts I just love to throw in the mix sometimes.  I had fun adding in some metallic stickers & a touch of Nuvo glitter dots as well!  That background paper is some OLD Tim Holtz Kraft resist gorgeousness with some Rustic Wilderness Distress Ink over it.  I added a bit of a Distress Ink/ Distress Marker combo to add color to the holly on the library card.

Thanks for stopping by!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 416} Golden Anniversary

Happy Tuesday (or Wednesday in this case, since I decided to wait until after Halloween to share this card) friends!  October was a busy month, with a lot of things to celebrate.  At the top of the list in our family was my parent’s Golden Anniversary, celebrating 50 years of marriage!

I had a special card in mind for them, which I wanted to represent them in some way in addition to having some touches of GOLD.

I made a black on white collage with a variety of dies from an assortment of Tim Holtz Sizzix sets (I’ll list them all below).  I started with the dies themselves and arranged them in a heart shape.  Once I had the rough shape, I took a picture and traced a heart around them on some scrap paper.  I started with the larger dies, which I tried to do in pairs (like the birds & the coffee cups, and then a leaf & feather) and added in numbers, flowers & hearts.  I cut everything out of black card stock and then trimmed a piece of patterned paper (this is from the Classic Pooh paper pad!) and began assembling my pieces, starting with the birds and then forming the heart shape from there.

The small hearts and bling were the finishing touches to form the final heart shape.  I misted the entire collage with Mica spray for some shimmer on the black pieces.  Once dry, I mounted this on a 5×7 Kraft card base, with a layer of gold paper between the layers.  Since the text print was only 6″ tall, I left room at the bottom for a sticker that says “Let’s Celebrate” in gold on black.

Before layering onto the gold, I die cut the birds & the ’50’ from it to use on the inside of the card.  I adhered these to a tag and added a handwritten sentiment and a few more hearts.

This is a fun way to create a personalized card and use a variety of dies in a new way!  It also gets you looking at the individual pieces in your die sets differently… maybe you’ll discover something new!  Here’s a list of the dies I’ve used:

I hope you enjoyed the card and it inspires you to try something new with your collection of dies… or maybe stamps!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 415} Sweet Treat Bags!

It’s not too late to put together some sweet little bags of treats before Halloween next week!  I’ve used dies, a stencil and ink all by Tim Holtz for these treats!  One thing I love about the Pumpkin Duo die set, is that you can use just the base layer as a silhouette when you want something simple, like I’ve done here!  It made a really fun window for my treat bags!
I was really hoping the cats from the Mischievous die set would be a good fit with the pumpkins, and they did not disappoint!  Cutting them out of a deep purple/black glitter paper is simply fabulous for Halloween (but they’ll be fun in a variety of colors throughout the year too)!

For the background I trimmed and scored the panel to the size I wanted (slightly larger than the plastic treat bag I filled with candy & tucked inside).  I used a blending tool to ink around the edges to start, then added more color over the entire panel through the linked circle stencil.  The fun finishing touch on these is the Sassy Spooktacular Sentiments by MFT- there’s so many fun ones in this set, I really wish I had more Halloween images to work with (who knew I’d grow to enjoy Halloween makes?)!

I used small treat bags to fill with candy, then put them in place with adhesive tape before folding over the Cardstock and punching holes for my ribbon.  I forgot to take a photo of the back of these, but it’s really nothing fancy- just a rectangle of cardstock folded over a bag.  You could definitely make it a bit fancier by creating a triangular pouch with scores at the bottom so it stood up, but these are super simple and perfect to go in my little treat bucket!

These little goodie bags went together pretty quick & easy and are such a fun way to add a handmade touch to your Halloween Treats!  We don’t get many trick-or-treaters at our house, so it was no problem making enough to go around 🙂

Hope you have a sweet day!

Inky hugs,

Tara
