A Whittle Winter Snowman

Happy Friday! One week today… Christmas Eve! Are you ready? I’ve got a card for today’s Random Acts of Cardness prompt, WINTER – and apart from a little drying time, it was quick and easy to make, perfect for this time of year.

This card also gave me a chance to use three new-to-me supplies – the Photoplay falling snow coverplate for my background, my whittle friendly snowman die and distress mica spray for the scarf and hat band. For my winter sky, I tried a technique Jennifer McGuire recently showcased. On Yupo paper, I added a generous amount of blender solution before adding blue alcohol pearl ink, and then smooshed a second sheet of Yupo paper on top. This definitely solves my tendency to add too much ink! I like the wind-blown look the smooshing added, as well.

For my whittle snowman (who is obviously not so “whittle’), I cut his head and body out of white cardstock, his hat and eyes from a scrap of black and his nose from an orange scrap. The hat band and scarf are from a scrap of white that I sprayed with holly branch mica spray – I’m impressed with how evenly it coats the paper and leaves a velvety shimmer. The sentiment is from a Lawn Fawn tag set – I chose it as it fit perfectly on a circle the same size as my snowman’s head. 😀   It’s popped up on a circle of fun foam for a little dimension.

If you make a wintry card, I hope you’ll link it up for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to the store! Have a great weekend.

I’m Dreaming of a White…

… martini? 😀  Today’s Random Act of Cardness prompt on the Scrap ‘n Stamp challenge page is WHITE! Here’s my take on a white card:

I don’t know about you, but some days when the holiday crunch is getting to me, this might just about sum up how I feel. 😀  As a festive card, I wanted lots of sparkle, so I started off with a Picket Fence martini stencil and some moonstone Nuvo glimmer paste. While that dried, I cut the My Favorite Things martini glass from some white glitter cardstock as well as two more from regular cardstock so I could layer them together. I also added a couple of layers to the MFT sassy sentiment, which I embossed with some sparkle embossing powder. I think we all know how tricky shine is to photograph, but this close-up at least gives a hint:

If you’re still working on holiday cards, I hope you’ll consider making a white card of your own, and adding it to the challenge page for a chance to win some Scrap ‘n Stamp spending money! Thanks for checking in today.

Let It Snow?

And just like that, it’s Friday again! Hope everyone is doing well, especially if you’ve been affected by the horrible weather events in BC.

I don’t know about you, but I’m just as happy when snow stays away for as long as possible. 😉  But that doesn’t mean I can’t put a little of the white stuff on a card for today’s Random Acts of Cardness challenge prompt, SNOW!

It’s a bonus when I can manage to make a cute card with just a little bit of sass! That penguin seems made for pitching snowballs, and I suppose it’s one way to get his little reindeer to pull the sled. The background is made with mermaid lagoon distress oxide ink blended on white cardstock, and then splattered with water. A few of my splats are larger than ideal, but oh well. 😀  The snow is made using a fun new product, snowfall distress grit-paste! It’s added to a separate piece of watercolour paper so it wouldn’t pick up any of the oxide colour. My critters, sled and snowballs are all from Lawn Fawn’s Toboggan Together, and the sentiment from Tiny Tag Sayings. The panel and sentiment dies are older My Favorite Things dies from my stash.

I hope my little snowy scene has inspired you to play along on the Scrap ‘n Stamp Random Acts of Cardness Facebook group! And stay tuned this weekend for the winner announcement for the Let It Snow Inspiration Hop!
