Tuesday with Tara {take 149}

Happy Tuesday!

I recently picked up some of the fun Color Layering stamps by Hero Arts and thought I’d share with you a quick little card I made with the results of my first trial run 🙂  This set includes all the stamps you see on my card… and I have to say I impressed myself because I used every single stamp in the set- a very rare thing!  The fish are stamped with two layers plus a third detail layer for their faces.  I decided to try out Distress Oxide inks, working with Spiced Marmalade & Abandoned Coral for the fish, Cracked Pistachio for the seaweed, Peacock Feathers for the bubbles & sentiment and a bit of Iced Spruce for the stones.

I added a bit of Nuvo Glitter drops for some shimmer…

A light wash of Scribble Sticks scribbles was added for a watery look… I stamped on a white background and hadn’t really planned to make it a card, I was just playing around with new stamps 🙂  I decided to trim it down and finish everything off with some twine and some seed beads.

Just some simple creative play… these stamps made it really fun and easy and I look forward to trying some more color combinations!  Check out some of the other stamps in the series that are in stock online- my faves are the sea turtle and the poppy!  But just do a search for ‘Hero Arts Color Layering’ to see all the pretties that are in stock 🙂

Have a creative day!

Inky hugs,

Tara

p.s. It’s not too late to leave a comment for a chance to win a lilac die set on our Blog Hop, and we’d also love to see an application from you to join our new Design Team!

Tuesday with Tara {take 143}

Happy Tuesday!

Today I thought I’d share a simple pair of cards with a fabulous sentiment, bold silhouette die cuts and colorful watercolors!

I couldn’t decide between a floral or leafy design… so decided to use both and create two cards for you today.  I wanted to create a fully rainbow (mostly) but the leafy design shape didn’t lend itself well to that.  I ended up using 5 shades of Color Burst behind the tall flower and just three shades behind the leaves.  It’s been a while since I just played with watercolor like this and it took a bit of practice, but thankfully only one piece was set aside for reinvention later 🙂

I started with the lightest color- a puddle of yellow, and worked up & down from there.  The toughest to work with was the purple, it’s a lot darker than I wanted. Still need to get my hands on those lighter sets (the Fresh Florals would be amazing for this!)  This floral is from Sizzix/ Tim Holtz.  Love those floral silhouettes… they are timeless!

These leafy greens are an older Memory Box die… they really seem to match the curves of the script in the sentiment (by Hero Arts) and I love the shades of yellow/green/blue behind them.  While this was not the design in my head when I sat down to create, this is my favorite of the two cards 🙂  Funny how it works out that way sometimes…

I hope today and this week you find beauty in the simple things around you!

Inky hugs,

Tara
