Art Journal

Tuesday with Tara {take 118}

Happy Tuesday!

I had a few bits & pieces laying around from my last card and decided to do a little bit of creative play in my Dina Wakley Mixed Media Journal!  This was my first time creating on one of her canvas pages and I had a bit of fun with it!

I started with a large butterfly die cut from the Botanicals set and the stamped sentiment I had on a scrap of paper.  After deciding where I wanted to place them, I used the back side of the butterfly as a mask, which I brushed paint around.  I had a mix of elephant & umber on my palette and picked up a mixture of them randomly as I went across the page.  After that, I chose a couple lines of text from the affirmations stencil that fit with my ‘be courageous’ sentiment by Concord & 9th and brushed them on with umber paint to make it pop.  I wanted a bit of color in with all the browns, so chose to highlight the green & blue in the butterfly wings, adding some washi tape in three spots to direct the eye towards my focal point.  I used matte gel medium to adhere some torn book paper, then stenciled a leaf in the open space above where my butterfly would rest.  Again, I used a mixture of colors, this time it was lime & turquoise.  I brushed a small amount of the paint that was left on my brush over the washi tape.

Paint dried quite quickly on the canvas, so I didn’t have to wait long before adhering my scrap with the ‘be courageous’ sentiment.  I used gel medium again.  The butterfly was the final thing I did on the page, I placed it down before attaching it and used the fine tip applicator on my Penny metallic paint to scribble some circles in a few spots across the page.

It was fun working on a new medium in my art journal!  I still have more exploring to do in this journal,  haven’t even attempted any art on the burlap page yet… but I’ll be sure to share it with you guys when I do!  I’m very blessed to be taking a class with Dina Wakley herself in less than two weeks, so I’m sure I’ll have plenty of fresh inspiration after that! If you’ve got one of Dina’s journals and have been creating in it, I’d love to see what you came up with!  Feel free to comment on this post with a link to inspire us 🙂

Painty hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 105}

Happy Tuesday!  Today I want to share with you an Art Journal page I was inspired to create when I saw the new #ShowUsYourMEdia challenge on the Ranger blog!  Dina Wakley is going to be hosting monthly challenges and this month the focus is to create a project that puts the ME into media and shows WHY you create.  I just got one of her new Mixed Media  journals (and it’s fabulous- so many great textures!) and this is my very first spread in it!

I actually started with a tag I had already inked up with Distress Oxide, added words and birds, etc… I used that as my color palette and grabbed some yummy colors of Dina Wakely Media paint to create a fun background.

I create for my sanity and to bring everyday joy.

I pulled out an OLD set of alphabet dies by Quickutz for this big word!

Some of the products I used:

Affirmations Stencil

Dina Wakley Media Paint in Black, Lime, Turquoise, Tangerine, Blushing

Scribbly Birds stamps

Black Stablio Pencil

Nuvo Glitter Drops

Inky hugs!

Tara
