TBT – Last but Not Least

Hi There!! Happy Thursday!!  Well, it’s time for THE LAST, but certainly not the least, challenge technique at the Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge Blog

DSC07966

Challenge #34, Tim’s Layering Stencil Monoprint technique.  This last technique is found on page 48 of Tim’s Compendium of Curiosities 3, and you’ve needed to work from your own copy to participate in this challenge series.  It’s definitely a must-have book for your creative library!  And even though the challenge is headed into its final sunset, the inspiration found in Tim’s book is eternal!!

And speaking of eternal–Thank You to Linda at Studio L3 for hosting and coordinating this challenge for the past 68 weeks and Thank You to the Extremely Talented Ladies of the Curiosity Crew who continuously inspired challenge after challenge, topping each and every one of their CC3 creations with the next!!

Throughout this challenge, there have been Outrageous Prize-a-Paloozas to win!!  Firstly–There have been two very Awesome sponsorsInspiration Emporium and The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  For this last CC3 challenge, The Funkie Junkie Boutique is sponsoring a $25 gift certificate to one lucky, randomly drawn, participant-YAY!

Secondly–Is the chance of being chosen the Curiosity Crew’s Honorable Mention!  That’s no little feat! Have you seen the stuff that people make for this challenge?  (besides my own stuff that is!) 😉🙂

Thirdly–And Definitely Not Lastly–Is the Tim & Mario prize package awarded to the Curiosity Crew’s Choice!  Now, that’s something to write home about!!

It’s been fun and creatively rewarding to craft through the pages of Tim’s latest tome, and I wanted to do something lasting to close the book with, so to speak —😉🙂

DSC08088

I altered a Tazo Tea tin to hold crafting goodies or little keepsakes or whatever I can fit in there!!  Let me take you through some of the steps, that I can share, in repurposing this tin for this last CC3 challenge.

Here’s  my Tazo Tea tin in all of its labeled glory!  I stripped the label off with a combination of soaking in soapy water, then rubbing with something called ‘Goof Off’ to remove the rest of the label adhesive.  I washed and dried the tin, lightly sanded the surface, then applied a dry brushing of white gesso over the surface.

DSC08036

I ‘measured’ a couple of pieces of mixed-media paper to wrap around the tin, and stitched together with my sewing machine.

DSC08042

And like magic–There’s my Layering Stencil Monoprint background!  I created this little scene using the Rays, Burlap and Measured Layering Stencils and all kinds of Distress Inks.

DSC08048

I’m using my favorite flower image in Tim’s Flower Garden stamp set to adorn my tin with.  I heat embossed the cone flower image onto the panels with Jet Black Archival ink and black embossing powder.  I colored the centers of the flowers with Walnut Stain DI and my water brush.

DSC08051

Behind the scenes, I stamped the cone flowers and stems onto pieces of mixed-media paper and water colored with Distress Markers and my water brush.  I could have sworn I snapped a separate picture of the stems, too–but they’re there out of shot somewhere!!  When I fussy cut these flowers out, I sprayed them with Sunflower Sparkle Perfect Pearls Mist to give them a little shimmer.

DSC08054

I wrapped the tin with my stitched panels and adhered with a combo of double-backed tape and matte Decou-Page.  I started adding the fussy cut cone flower heads  and stems in place and adhered with matte Decou-Page.

DSC08064

I made a separate panel for the top of the tin, and worked on this panel on the side as I was working on the other panels for the body of the tin.

DSC08083

I treated all of the sides of the tin the same with Botanical Rem-Rubs, Small Talk or Big Chat stickers and some ink spritzing and paint splattering.

DSC08091

I outlined the image of the flower and the small talk sticker with Black Soot DI and my water brush.  I heat set then outlined again with my white gel pen.

DSC08085

I used my air art tool with my Black Soot DM and spritzed ink all over the surfaces and heat set.

DSC08087

I also splattered Scattered Straw DP over the surfaces with a round water color brush and heat set that, too.

DSC08095

I trimmed a piece of Menagerie paper stash to attach to the bottom of the tin–this is mainly to camouflage all of the printing that’s on the bottom on the tin.

DSC08093

And that’s all folks!!  I’ve now got a nicely decorated tin that I can use for a myriad of purposes!!

I’m taking this over to Studio L3 for the last time, for this last CC3 challenge, which ends tomorrow, Friday August 14th at 11:55pm MDT.  If you’ve got Tim’s book, you’ve still got time to create and enter!  It’s never too late and you’ve gotta be in it to win it!!🙂

Thanks so much for joining me today!  I’ll be back this weekend with a little something, something that I’ve been working on for Artistic Outpost, so I hope you’ll come back and visit again!!

Until next time–Stay Artsy Fartsy!!

TBT – It’s Begun!

HELLO HELLO HELLO!!  It’s time for Throwback Thursday at the Scrap’N Stamp  today, we’re jumping into the holiday season with this Christmastime creation from November 20, 2014–WOW!! Almost two years ago now…

Yes!!  I have done it!!  I’ve finally got myself crafting for Christmas-early (for me)!!  THANK YOU to all of my bloggy friends who have been inspiring me with their own Christmas creations and tales of not being ready to be in the holiday spirit, either!!😉

I usually hold out until December 1st to start any kind of Christmas anything, but there are several challenges out there that expire on November 30th-if not sooner! and one of those challenges is holiday related.  That helps get the old motivation kick-started, too!!

DSC05312

This, my first of the season Christmas card, is headed into 3 challenges!  HO HO HO-Let’s Go!!

DSC05268

I’ve got the Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge #15-Cabinet Card…check!  I’ve got the Artistic Outpost-Show us your AO art….check!  And over at Inspiration Journal it’s Happy Holidays…check!  There is the chance to win some fabulous goodies and gift certificates at each challenge, so get your holiday crafting mojo in gear (if I can do it, you can do it) and join me!! 🙂

DSC05269

I started with a TH/Idea-ology Cabinet Card that I covered with a layer of gesso on the front…..

DSC05270

….and on the back.  I don’t mind that the pre-printed graphics can be seen through the gesso.  It’s a great first layer that I hope will show through here and there when I’m finished altering this card.

(Excuse the mottled sunlight–I’m still trying to use as much natural light as I can for my picture taking and the sun doesn’t crest the tree line that borders our property to the south.  This is the sunlight I get when the sun is at its highest point in the day, filtered through a greenbelt of evergreens.  It’s pretty, but not the best for picture taking, so I’ll be working on my whole lighting thing as the days grow shorter.)

DSC05271

I used Jet Black Archival ink and randomly stamped images from my AO Ephemera Background set on the front of the cab card….

DSC05272

…and on the back.  I know that the postal mark in the image isn’t Christmas time related, but it’s the thought that counts!!

DSC05274

I’m going to finger paint Barn Door & Mowed Lawn DPs over the front and back of the cab card.  Before I began, I slipped a piece of wax paper into the middle of the cab card so that the pocket did not get painted shut.

DSC05275

I went heavier with red on the front, with a smudge of green here and there….

DSC05276

…and I used the rest of the paint and smudged it all over the backside with my fingers.

I sanded the front and back surfaces with my sanding block, then I applied Vintage Photo DI with my ink blending tool over the front & back surfaces and I finished with inking the edges with Walnut Stain DI.  I constructed the rest of this cabinet card at night and the lighting was horrible, so I only have pictures of the completed card, that I snapped in the daylight.

DSC05303

Here is the finished back–I used my TH Harlequin & Christmastime stencils with WV Silver Embossing Paste and randomly laid down some texture on the back and front sides.

DSC05312

You can see the stenciling peeking through some of the layers of embellies that I laid down–There’s some TH/Idea-ology Tissue Tape, Alpha Tiles that spell out St. Nick, OH–I used a piece of Industrious Border sticker, that I painted with Picket Fence & Mowed Lawn DPs, to frame the image of old St. Nick.

DSC05319

This nice image of St. Nick is from the AO Snowy Woods set and I stamped him onto glossy stock with StazOn ink in Jet Black.  I colored him with Tea Dye, Barn Door & Broken China DI’s and my mini ink blending tool.  He was attached to a couple of pieces of Seasonal Paper Stash and slipped into the pocket of the Cabinet Card.

DSC05317

I stamped the pine cones from the AO Midwinter set onto manila stock and colored with Vintage Photo DI.  I fussy cut them out and applied Clear Rock Candy DG to the edges with sticky embossing powder.  The pine boughs are from the TH/Sizzix Tattered Pinecone die, treated with a layer of Shabby Shutters DG.

DSC05314

DSC05304

Here’s the tag I made to insert inside the pocket.  It’s a #8 manila tag that I soaked with a Walnut Stain re-inker spray that I made (Thanks for the idea, Lynne!)   I used the Christmastime stencil with Evergreen Bough DI and my ink blending tool.  That little trio of pine cones is from the Midwinter plate and they have a nice little sparkle of Clear Rock Candy DG, too.

DSC05320

I attached the Merry Christmas label, from the TH/SA Simple Sayings set, to a piece of black stock and wrapped around the cab card with jute twine.  I have to say it feels good to have this first card made for Christmas.  It should just get easier from here on out, Right?! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by today!!  I’m so glad that you did and until next time–Stay Artsy Fartsy!!

TBT – Grow Beauty

Hello & Happy Friday!! I’m here today with my make for the latest CC3 #25 Challenge–Frameworks.  We’re on page 64 of Tim Holtz’s Compendium of Curiosities 3 and I’m getting in just under the wire–it closes tonight at 11:55pm MST.  WHEW!!

Inspiration Emporium is sponsoring this challenge with a generous $50 gift certificate to their online store.  And don’t forget, there’s the chance to be awarded the Compendium Crew’s Choice and win a prize packaged donated by Tim & Mario!!

DSC06762

I made a couple of ATCs using my Honeycomb Frameworks die and two left over Flower Garden cone flowers from a previous project.

DSC06747

I brought out all of my previously cut Honeycomb Frameworks, thinking I was going to be making a tag with a combination of both the negatives & positives…

DSC06748

…But I haven’t made any ATCs for about a month now, so I brought out a couple of homemade ATCs (made with manila stock & chipboard) for the challenge.

DSC06749

I started with spritzing the ATCs with Broken China & Peeled Paint DSSs and heat set.

DSC06751

I spread a layer of white embossing paste over the ATCs and set the acetate positives & negatives into the wet EP.  I may have used a little too much EP on the ATC on the left, but I sure do love the texture!

DSC06753

Because the EP is a bit thicker on this ATC, I lightly spritzed the wet EP with Broken China & Peeled Paint DSSs and let air dry.  As it air dries, the EP will soak up the stain.

DSC06755

Since the layer of EP was thinner on this ATC, the stain will wick better into the EP as it dries and I won’t have to do an extra spritzing.  You can even see the deeper colors under the acetate framework that occurred when I pressed the die cut into the wet EP.

DSC06764

When the EP was dry,  I applied a couple of rem-rubs and crackled a couple of the acetate honeycomb negatives.   I did a little bit of stenciling using my Honeycomb LS with Vintage Photo DI and spritzed and flicked water over the surface and heat dried.  I layered on my cone flower, stem & leaves and the Big Chat sticker.  BTS, I altered a little strip of Industrious Borders with Walnut Stain & Broken China DPs for both ATCs.  This one got a strip of it on top🙂

DSC06767

I treated this ATC the same with rem-rubs, a Big Chat sticker and an altered piece of industrious border.  I also treated the honeycomb framework with Clear Rock Candy DCP–you can see some of the crackle there that I enhanced with a rubbing of Walnut Stain DI with my finger.  The dried EP did end up a bit darker on this ATC because of the rubbing of Walnut Stain, so I outlined the bloom with my Picket Fence DM to try to get the bloom to pop a little more.

DSC06780

I finished off each ATC with an edging of Walnut Stain DP that I applied with my finger–I wanted to make sure the rougher edges got a good covering of paint to accentuate the texture of the embossing paste! FUN!

Well, I’m off to get this entered over at Studio L3–The home of the CC3 challenges!  Thanks for spending a little bit of your Friday with me!  I’ll be back this weekend with my weekly project for Artistic Outpost, so until next time–

Stay Artsy Fartsy!!
