Tuesday with Tara {take 43}

Happy Tuesday!  Today’s card is inspired by Tim Holtz again… this time a more recent project, the 12 tags of 2016 – March.  I changed things up a little bit as I’d already played around with a background and decided it would look good behind a grungy butterfly frame 🙂

grungy butterfly (2)My background was actually done when I was making this tag with Distress Crayons, and is a similar technique, but I took a tag with gesso and dry embossed it before adding color.  I like the texture you get with the color pooling in the debossed parts of the image.  I used mini butterfly dies (movers & shapers) which shows off more of my grungy cardboard frame, that had multiple inks splattered and rubbed on it.

My card background started as an oops… I was using black gesso and dribbled some on the kraft 5×7.  I then decided to just dry brush (aka clean off my brush!) on the card and it turned into a fun looking background perfect for this image!

Tuesday with Tara {take 42}

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m sharing with you a project I did a while back using Tim Holtz’s Distress Paint marbling technique (you can see some step by step photos of the technique on his blog here- skip to step 8!) I used 3 small tags and added some stamped details and Distress Ink around the edges as well before finishing with my focal images.

The bird stamps are by Memory Box (both birds are from one stamp, inked & stamped separately to cover two tags) and the sentiment is from my stash (Inkdinkado).  They are stamped simply in black Archival Ink, then embellished with a little bit of Distress Stickles.  Simple details like colorful Prima flowers, bling & crinkle ribbon finish this card.

A card layout like this is a great way to showcase small tags you’ve used to experiment with background techniques.  Your backgrounds will shine when you keep the images simple and bold.  If you have Distress Paints and haven’t played with them in a while, pull out a few colors and try out this technique!  It’s a fun one 🙂

Leave me a comment and you could win a Memory Box bird die– it matches the stamps used on my card!  I’d love to know, do you use tags when you are trying out new (to you) techniques?

The winner of our giveaway from last week is KELLY- thanks for your comment 🙂  Send us a message on facebook or use this form with your mailing address and we’ll send your prize (a butterfly stamp!) off to you!

Have a creative week!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Bird Thoughts (2)

Happy Tuesday!  I’ve got a simple card to share with you today!  I recently colored up a few Crazy Birds images and saved them for some quick cards, like this one.  I noticed that Color Burst has arrived in the shop (yay!) so thought I’d use them on today’s card!

For the card background, I cut a piece of watercolor paper to size and spritzed it with water, then sprinkled a few bits of Color Burst in yellows and orange into the puddles.  I mixed them a bit with a wet paintbrush, then dried it all with a heat tool.  I can’t tell you enough how much I love the way the colors blend together… so fun to play with!  Since I’d already colored up my main image, I just selected a sentiment (and oldie from my stash, by the artist that made this great set!) and arranged the pieces on my background.  A bit of bling finished it all off after I attached it to a black card base.

Here’s a few more shots- I love that it’s spring and I can take photos in the yard 🙂
