Mini Slimline

Tuesday with Tara {take 392} Birthday Birds

Since I’m inspired by our Windows of Wonder Inspiration Hop theme, I thought I’d share another window themed card!  This is another mini slim- a gatefold card that measures 3.5×6″ and features frames from the Picket Fence Slimline System, together with Tim Holtz Silhouette birds.

As you can see, I actually have two cards to share… one of which was completed during my Facebook Crafty Live last Saturday!

I’ve used the stitched frame for the front (open left) panel and the bare tree/branches die for the middle (open right) panel.  Behind them both I’ve attached a slightly larger die cut square, which was inked to resemble the sunny sky.  A die cut bird is perched on the branch, colored up in bold red.

I die cut & scored the panels in advance, then completed the card on a Facebook live video, which I’ll link to below- I’d love to have you watch it!

Hopefully you were able to catch the replay of the live! If it doesn’t show up embedded in this post, please click here to see it on Facebook 🙂

I’ve included a few more photos of the open card on my personal blog, if you’d like a closer look!

Thanks for stopping by!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 353} A Dream is a Wish

Happy Tuesday!  Something about the soft color palette and shimmery touches gives this card a dreamy feeling…

I used a few alternate (aka leftover) pieces from previous cards- the flowers were some I made when I did this card and the butterflies were part of my inky play session when I first got my hands on the Saltwater Taffy Distress Ink!  The multicolored background layer was just some fun color blending, and the cut out is a combination of the taffy ink with a shimmery coat of bronze mica spray.  So pretty!

I’ve used the cutout letters from one of the bold text dies to spell WISH, and layered a chit chat sticker over it.  They’re kinda perfect together!  I inked the sticker with Saltwater Taffy regular distress ink before adding it to my card, which I think really pops layered over the patterned paper by Vicki Boutin which was cut with one of my slimline stackable dies.

I finished off the card with a touch of Nuvo glitter glaze to add to the shimmer.  I just love the springy vibes this card has and it definitely seems to me like it would bring a smile to it’s recipient…and hopefully to you!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with tara {take 352} Refresh!

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m sharing a card that is a sweet reminder to *refresh*!  This sweet kitten by Anita Jeram is getting ready to refresh some spring flowers, and maybe taking some time to enjoy the flowers will give you the refresh that you need!

I wanted to work with my new mini slimline stackable dies by Lawn Fawn for this card, so I chose to make a sweet 3×6″ card this time.  I’ve been playing around with a variety of sizes as mini slims lately, but this one (or something a little bit bigger) may be my new default now that I have these dies!

This little card size is not anything new for me, even though it is kinda a ‘trendy new thing’ in card making right now!  I have been making cards this size for around 15 years!  Looking back at my personal blog (which I used when I had a store in Williams Lake, BC) I found some to share from classes I taught in 2009.  I saw some as far back as 2007 when I looked a while ago, but the photos were kinda awful 🙂

I pulled out my Copics to color this cutie, experimenting with this light Kraft Cardstock as my base.  It was a bit hard to see how the blending would come out as I worked (the ink is much darker when wet than it is on white Cardstock!), but I was pleased with the result and impressed with how well even the light colors show up!

I dug through my dies to find some flowers that would coordinate nicely with the cute one on the watering can… and I found these ones from two different funky floral sets by Tim Holtz.  I cut them from a panel of Cardstock I did some ink blending on with a few shades of Distress Oxide Ink, then added a touch of glitter to the finished flowers.

Finally, I decided on some ombre layers to match the mix of colors and of course a bit of bling to add sparkle!

Hope you like this little cutie and that you take some time to refresh… whatever that means for you!

Inky hugs,

Tara
