paper piecing

Paper Piecing and the Colour Yellow!

Happy Saturday!! It’s Laurie here to share a card featuring the Main Squeeze Stamp set and co-ordinating dies from MFT. I decided to do a technique that I haven’t done in ages..paper piecing! If you’ve never done this before, it’s super fun! It can be a bit time consuming depending on the images but well worth the effort!

I started by stamping all the images I wanted to use onto white cardstock as well as patterned paper. For the patterned paper, I used the Woodgrain Whimsy paper pad, also from MFT.

After trimming around each of the images that were stamped on the patterned paper, I went around each piece with a black marker to get rid of the white edges. To add a bit more shading to the images, I used some Gina K Inks in co-ordinating colours and a sponge dauber. I added some ink just around the edges.

Now, it’s as easy as gluing each fussy cut portion onto the white cardstock image. I used Gina K Connect Glue for this. I then used the co-ordinating dies to cut each image out.

For the background, I used Transclucent Gloss Embossing Paste along with the Scattered Florals Stencil from Taylored Expressions. I added this to the top right corner of a piece of white cardstock. After it dry, I lightly blended a blue ink over top. This panel measures 3.25 X 5.

I used a combination of liquid glue and foam adhesive to add the leaves and the lemons. I ended up placing the main panel onto a piece of the light yellow patterned paper I used for one of the lemons. This whole piece was adhered to an ivory, top fold card base.

And as per usual, I forgot to stamp the sentiment! Luckily, it worked out okay! To finish, I added a few clear sequins from my stash as well a covered the lemons in Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Pen.

I made this card with the prompt from our current monthly challenge on our FB Page which is “Yellow”. I hope you’ll check our page and play along!

Thanks for stopping by! See you soon!

Tuesday with tara {take 151}

Happy Tuesday!

Today’s card is a simple one that celebrates some gorgeous watercolor floral paper by Webster’s Pages that I picked up on a recent shopping trip- the cheerful mix of patterns and colors called to me… so I decided to try using it for some paper piecing!  I stamped this fun mug by Impression Obsession first on white card stock, then on the patterned paper.  I trimmed my patterned mug and added a bit of shading, then colored the pens, pencils & paintbrushes in a variety of shades to coordinate with the paper. My white cardstock was trimmed to fit inside the card front and the right edge was trimmed with some old school scalloped scissors 😉

I trimmed a strip of the floral paper to fit a die cut ‘hello’ sentiment (from the Sizzix Side Order die set) I added a simple ‘handmade’ definition stamp in black (an OLD Hero Arts fave!) to help draw the eye to the die cut greeting.

Such a pretty mug of tools!  The little butterfly is also from the spring Side Order die set, I stamped the same definition on the back side of the patterned paper (which has a pale pink pattern).

A little bit of Distress Ink blending and some Nuvo Glitter drops add a bit of extra interest to the background of my card.  I also added a bit of splatter details using Dina’s Scribble Sticks.  They make it soooo easy!

I paper pieced another image as well and made a similar card with it- you can see a closer look at that one on my personal blog later today 🙂

Thanks for stopping by!

Inky hugs,

Tara
