TBT- Frosted Sunflower Trinket Box
HAPPY almost NEW YEAR!!! WOO-HOO!!! And it’s Thursday, too!! HEY–That means it’s Throwback Thursday time at the Scrap’n Stamp Blog!! Glad I didn’t decide to hibernate the rest of the year away!! LOL!!😉🙂
I decorated a little round wooden trinket box and adorned the top with a Frosted Film Sunflower that I made using the Tattered Poinsettia Bigz Die.
Here’s how the box started out–I’m using the smaller of the two for today’s project. I won these boxes from A Vintage Journey late last year!! These were a part of a special Christmas Give-Away they were hosting at the end of December and I was the lucky random winner!! WOO HOO!! Thanks, AVJ!!
Now, I hope I can explain what’s going on here, without exposing too much about the technique. The Frosted Film technique is also, kind of, product based and I did not have enough of one of the products to do exactly what Tim does in his book. So, I took pieces of Wendy Vecchi’s White Out and colored them with Adirondack AIs in Sunshine Yellow & Honeycomb to achieve my color. This is all I can say about that😉
I first lined the inside of the box & lid with a piece of Menagerie Paper Stash and adhered into place with matte Decou-Page. I heat set then painted the outside of the box with Mustard Seed DP and heat set. The stenciling was done in small sections, as the stencil did not wrap all the way around the box, and believe me–I let all of those sections air dry completely! I used WV’s Add a stencil with DA Black Modeling Paste.
When all of the stenciling was done, I used the Dotted Flourish image from Wendy Vecchi and stamped it onto the lid with Jet Black Archival. I heat set the ink then applied a coat of DA Crackle Glaze and let air dry. When that layer was dry, I brushed on some DA Titanium White Antiquing Cream and let air dry, which was pretty quick. I then wiped down with a damp cotton cloth to expose those cracks! COOL! Oh, and you can see how some of the antiquing cream seeped under the crackle–I like that, too!!
I’m using 4 whole layers of the Tattered Poinsettia die cuts and several individually cut petals that I used as filler here and there when I was hot gluing the flower onto the top of the lid. I created the center out of a roughly cut piece of manila stock that I painted with Black Soot DP. Then I applied a great big glob of Diamond Glaze and covered it with black seed beads. I totally let that air dry!!
Oh Boy, I love this close up!! You can see the shimmer of the Frosted Film and Oh Those Beads!! They look really cool!! A couple of details–I treated the edges of all of the sunflower petals with an inking of Orange Blossom Archival then a layer of Black Soot DP with a detail paint brush. I also outlined the center with Orange Blossom Archival using my water brush.
Oh, here’s another cool picture! You can see the paint on the edges of the petals and look at all of that wonderful crackly goodness!!
This was a fun challenge to create for–I’ve secretly been waiting for this Frosted Film challenge to roll around so that I could make something Sunflower related! LOL🙂🙂
