You Make Me Happy

Happy Sunday, everyone!  I’m back with another clean and simple creation for you today.  My cards aren’t full of product or techniques, but I do hope I can encourage you to try to embrace the white space on your cards.  I spent a few days in my craft room this past week, just shuffling things around… I just couldn’t figure out something I wanted to create.  It was so frustrating, knowing I had a commitment to the blog here, but not being able to get any inspiration.  I had a few hours before I started work on Wednesday and I was finally able to put something together… it took some time, but I am so very happy with how this card turned out!

I started out stamping the words from the Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy stamp set in Tuxedo Black Memento ink on a smaller panel of white cardstock that I cut with one of the My Favorite Things stitched rectangle Stax dies.

After I stamped it and cut it out, I coloured the striped parts of the word “happy” with my Copic markers in a bright pink and a bright green.

I cut out some of the flowers from the My Favourite Things Stitched Blooms die set in pink and green and layered them together using my Lawn Fawn Glue Tube and attached them to the panel.  I truly love this die set… so many options for layering the flowers together!

I used my stamp positioner and the Concord & 9th Stripes & Sayings set to create a black and white striped layer.  I used the stamp positioner so that I could stamp the stripes multiple times so that I ended up with a nice crisp black image.  I trimmed that piece to be 1/4″ bigger on each side than the layer on top of it.  I put it all on to a top folding white card and added some embellishments from my stash for a little more interest.  I used these flat backed clear drops however you could use anything from some Nuvo Drops to Stickles to Pearls to sequins.  I like to follow the rule of odd numbers as much as possible and while there are only 2 flowers, there are 3 embellishments and that all adds up to an odd number.

I think I will be making more cards with the black and white striped background… I love the crisp interest that it adds to the card.

Thanks for stopping by today!!   🙂 Nancy E

Until My Cheeks Hurt

Hi Everyone!  Nancy E here again with a clean and simple card.  After all the cold weather Calgary has had in February, I really needed to create a card that said “spring” to me… I know our weather could have been worse (down east they had SO much snow and in SK and MB it’s been so very cold) but the 2 or more weeks of very cold temperatures is not something we are used to here in Calgary. I was thinking flowers and bright colours as I came up with this card…

I had fun digging through my stash to see what spoke to me for this card.  I started out with the Lawn Fawn Simply Celebrate stamp set.  I stamped the flowers on the front panel with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.

I then chose some bright colours of Tombow Markers to colour in the flowers.  I cut a piece of green polka dot paper from the My Favorite Things Dots & Stripes 6X6 paper pad (1.25″) and stamped the My Favorite Things sentiment from the All Smiles set in Tuxedo Memento Black ink and adhered it to the bottom of the panel with Lawn Fawn glue.  I like using glue for things that are right to the edge as there is a little more time to play with the item to get it in to place.

I was going to layer the white panel on to a white card but I wasn’t liking how it looked… I pulled out more of the papers from the MFT paper pack and chose a scrap of the orange to add a little pop of colour.

After I adhered the card together I decided it needed a little bit of sparkle… so I used my Nuvo Glitter Gloss Aqua Shimmer pen on each of the flowers.

As someone who loves the clean and simple style, I do sometime struggle with white space.  I will admit I had a few thoughts on things to break up the white space at the top of this card, but I decided to keep it as is.

I hope that spring isn’t too far away, for any of us….

Cheers!

Alcohol Ink Valentines

Hi Everyone!  My name is Nancy (I’ll be Nancy E on the blog as there are two of us) and I am super excited to be joining to design team here at Scrap ‘n Stamp!  I live in Calgary AB, am a Mom of two grown boys who still live at home and have been married to Bruce since 1991.  My Mom introduced me to stamping in 1996.  My Mom was the queen of crafts… she did everything from sewing to knitting to crocheting to needlepoint to ceramics to paper toile to beading to jewelry making…. I think she tried it all!  So when she told me about this new craft she had found, I admit I rolled my eyes and though “oh no, not another one”.  She showed me heat embossing and I was hooked!  Over the years my style has changed and the amount of time I have to spend on my creativity has ebbed and flowed.  I am very fortunate that a turn of events in 2017/18 led me to find that my creative side was something I wanted to nurture regularly instead of once in a while and I have been creating like crazy since then.

My style is mostly clean and simple… and I hope you’ll find a little inspiration from what I do that might challenge you a little in your creative space!

I don’t often make Valentine’s cards, but I thought that since my first post here was getting close to the big day that I would play a little with some heart shapes.

I started out with a piece of Yupo Paper and some Alcohol Inks in Sailboat Blue, Raspberry and Pink Sherbet.  I don’t have a large stash of these inks so I used a couple of shades of red/pink and a blue so I could get some purple in there.  I spritzed and played around with colours, alcohol and my heat tool until I got a look I was happy with. I cut out some heart shapes (these are from My Favorite Things but you could use any dies or punches, or even free hand them if you’re talented with scissors!) and then let it all sit for a little bit while I decided what I should do next.

I didn’t have any of the metallic mixatives to add, but I wanted these hearts to have some more dimension so I used my Versamark ink pad to create some stickiness on the hearts and then I lightly brushed on some gold Perfect Pearls and let them sit and dry while I went off to work.

As you can see, I didn’t use all of the hearts I had cut…  I added some random lines to my card front with my ScorPal and then finished it off with a My Favorite Things sentiment from Essential Sentiments stamped in black VersaFine ink.

I hope you’ll find a little inspiration to make a valentine for someone you love this year!
