Polar Bear Pals

Hi crafting friends and welcome back. Sandi MacIver here and today I’m sharing Polar Bear Pals, and in keeping with the Distressed Oxide Theme for this month, I did a quick Blended Distress Oxide background for my cute little bear.

Polar Bear Pals from Scrap 'N stamp

The My Favorite Things Polar Bear Pals is a fun stamp set with a great selection of sentiments covering many occasions. I love the fact that I can use it for a winter birthday as well as the holidays.

Polar Bear Pals

I started the card by borrowing the snowflake stamps from the Warm and Feathered Hugs stamp set, also from My Favorite Things. I white heat embossed them on the card front.

Next I used my Ranger blending tools to add Mustard Seed, Broken China and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxides to my card front. This is the Embossed Resist technique as the embossed snowflakes resist the ink and pop from the colored background.

After that I mixed a little white paint and water and spattered onto my card base to create more snow.

To create my snowy mountain I cut another piece of card stock and then die cut it with the MFT Stitched Basic Edges Dies. I added a sentiment stamped in black ink before attaching to the bottom front of my card.

Finally, I stamped my bear on white cardstock. Coloured his scarf and skates with my Prismacolour Pencils before die cutting him with the coordinating Polar Bear Pals Dies. I added small pieces of Foam Squares to pop him up just a bit.

My only embellishment is I used my Signo White Gel Pen to add lines to his scarf.

Thanks so much for stopping in today. I have linked all the products I used below for you. Simply click on the link to see a larger image and to shop through our Scrap ‘N Stamp Store.

Let’s get MORE Di (stressed)

Hi stamping friends and welcome back. Sandi MacIver here and Let’s Get MORE Di(stressed) shall we! I’m carrying on with the Distress Oxide Theme for this month. This time I’m using the Ink Pads to create a Blended background:

Let's get MORE Di(stressed)

October is Breast Cancer awareness month so I decided to GO PINK using Distress Oxide Ink pads in: Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick and Picked Raspberry.
I started by White Heat Embossing the sentiment and snowflakes with Wow White Embossing Powder before doing my blending: Known as the “resist technique”.

Next I used the mini blending tools to add the inks, lightest to darkest. These inks are very creamy which makes blending them a breeze. As they are Opaque, you can also stack the colors on top of each other, or lightly blend them over each other to create new colors.

Once I was completely finished, I added a touch of the Squeezed Lemonade just to add a bit of “light” to the sky.

I added a little snowbank next by die cutting a piece of white cardstock with the MFT Stitched Basic Edges Dies.

Finally, I colored these adorable little owls from the MFT Warm and Feathered Hugs Stamp set using my Copic Markers. I popped them up with foam squares just to add a bit of depth to the card.

Let's get MORE Di(stressed)

Blending with the Distress Oxides is amazingly easy as they are so forgiving.  The ink is part water-reactive dye and a pigment ink fusion that creates these beautiful Opaque colors.  Therefore you can add one color on top of another.  You can also blend them together to create a whole new color.  Pick 3 – 4 of your favorite colors and give them a try.

You can use them with stamps, stencils and direct to paper.  They are water-reactive for a oxidized effect, watercolor with them and they are perfect for the smooshing technique too.

You can also use the Distress Oxide Sprays to create pretty backgrounds as I shared in this video post:

That’s it for me today, and thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you will give Distress Oxide Ink Pads a try. I have listed the supplies I used below.

Concord and 9th Songbird – watercoloured

Hi stamping friends and welcome back. It’s Sandi MacIver here and today my share is using Concord and 9th Songbird – water coloured with the Nuvo Aqua Flow Pens.

Concord and 9th Songbird watercoloured

This lovely Songbird from Concord and 9th is perfect for so many occasions:

Concord and 9th Songbird stamp set

It has the beautiful main image, a lovely selection of sentiments and then add on pieces depending on the season you are creating. Spring flowers and leaves, berries and pine cones for winter/Christmas and the larger leaves that I used today for fall. Simply use your stamp positioning tool to add the elements you want.

In today’s Video I walk you through the many ways I like to watercolour with the Nuvo Aqua Flow Pens: Direct to paper, blended out with a water brush, diluted on an acrylic block and blended together direct from the pen. I splatter with them too. So versatile, they should be a staple in every craft room.

Here’s today’s video, you can watch it here, or in HD over on my YOUTUBE channel.
