Tuesday with Tara {take 37}

Happy Tuesday!  I wanted to share something GREEN in honor of St. Patrick’s Day coming up this week, so I’m sharing this card I made for  my awesome family back in BC.  It’s simple, but has some fun textures I hope you’ll enjoy!

missing you (1)

I used the mini globe sizzix die by Tim Holtz, cut from chipboard, painted with Distress Paint and sanded lightly.  I did some finger painting to add some blue to the globe base and Viva Decor Inka Gold to make the land shimmer in green!

The tag was created using Ranger Texture paste through a fun scripty stencil onto a kraft tag.  Once dry, I masked off a section at the bottom (a post it note or piece of low tack washi tape works great!) and inked the entire tag up with some green Distress Ink.  I lifted my mask and stamped the sentiment with black Archival ink.

As you can probably see from the shadows, I cut the ‘land’ from the rest of the die and raised it with foam adhesive.  (I do apologize for the shadows- I forgot to take pictures until I was ready to send this off in the mail and had to work with less than perfect light!)

This last photo is just to show the awesome shimmer you get from the Inka Gold paint.  love that stuff!

Tuesday with Tara {take 35}

Happy Tuesday!  I’m glad you’re here today!  It’s March 1, the sun is shining where I’m at and it’s got me thinking about spring and bright colors and inky fingers and other things that make me smile…

First up today, I’ve got a winner to announce!  I took all the comments left on last week’s blog post and the facebook page post, and used a random number generator to come up with a winner!  (If it’s not you, stick around till the end of this post for another chance to win a prize!)

The winner is…

NANCY L.

Congrats!  Contact us with your mailing address and we’ll get your feather stencil sent off to you!

Today we’re moving from feathers to BIRDS- just a little crazy bird today 🙂  I mixed up another custom paste for my background using a couple shades of Distress Ink and Transluscent paste and a generous amount of chunky glitter by American Crafts.  I stamped my sentiment first, then placed the Crafter’s Workshop stencil over it and applied paste with a palette knife.  Once the paste was dry, I sprinkled some Color Burst over it and spritzed.  It made a fun background!

My crazy bird was also colored with a mix of Color Burst and Distress Markers, then finished off with a generous amount of Stickles Glitter Glue 🙂

Tuesday with Tara {take 34}

Happy Tuesday!  I’m pretty excited because today I get to show you a project with a product that is coming soon to the store… and you are going to LOVE them if you haven’t already tried them and fallen in love!  That’s right, Color Burst by Ken Oliver is coming soon, and they are a fabulous powdered watercolor medium that you can do all sorts of techniques with.  I had the opportunity to take a class with Ken Oliver and we created some larger pieces, one of which was finished on a 12×12 canvas.  Today I’m showing you that piece, even though I haven’t quite decided if I will be adding more to finish it yet… here’s what I made:

We started with creating a lighter colored watercolor background on a large piece of watercolor paper, then added depth with deeper colors through a stencil.  Lots of water spritzing, dripping and a bit of detail added with a wet paintbrush… here’s some close ups of the fabulous bursts of color pigments:

I actually haven’t decided yet which way is UP on my piece, and plan to add a word or quote in the “solid” panel, which will determine the direction I suppose!  Here’s another angle:

I do love it as it is though!  And really need to add a feather stencil to my collection… but for now I have a chance for YOU to add one to yours!   Leave a comment on THIS blog post telling me your favorite COLOR!  Earn an extra chance to win by commenting on the pinned post on our facebook page as well!

Here’s the stencil that could be arriving soon in your mailbox (it’s on my wish list!):

I look forward to hearing from you this week!  Have a creative day!

Inky hugs,

Tara
