Tuesday with Tara {take 348} Glaze!

I had the best intentions of sharing with you fun new projects featuring Distress Glaze today… but a stomach bug is lingering in my house right now, and while I don’t have it, I don’t have any creative mojo either!  (I did get several bits and pieces made though, and they will show up in future makes!) So, I’m sharing a fun throwback to my very first make with Distress Glaze, which also happens to be the first of the ‘new’ Distress collection releases back in 2020.  Enjoy!

I’m so excited to have the new Speckled Egg Distress collection to play with, it’s such a lovely color that is absolutely perfect with so many other colors and themes.  My goal on today’s card was honestly just to play with it and some other new to me products!  Here’s a photo of what I used (though I’ve got the wrong Nuvo product in this pic- I used the Nuvo Expanding Mousse today)!

Here’s a look at my card!  The background is a text stamp in black and Distress Oxide Spray splattered across the background.  The addition of Broken China with Speckled Egg brightens up the blue tones to really help the large flourish (from a large 12×12 stencil in my stash) pop.  The transparent wings I selected both had some hints of color in them already, but I painted some speckled egg Distress Paint on the back side where there were clear areas.  I love how this simple addition helped to tie everything together!

This was my first time playing with Distress Embossing Glaze, so I’ve used it in two ways on my card.  The sentiment is embossed over Broken China Distress Ink.  I stamped & embossed twice to get a bit more intensity.  I also sprinkled the glaze over the wet Nuvo Expanding Mousse, which I knew I would be heating to get that funky expansion happening. Here’s a peek at the pearly finish of the mousse before it was bubbled up from the heat (I tried it on another surface and it does keep that shimmer after it puffs up).

And here’s a closer look at the details… as you can see, the glaze is translucent, so you can see the details underneath it on the sentiment.  It’s fun stuff, and I look forward to playing with it some more!

I had a lot of fun playing with my new BLUE Speckled Egg Distress products today, as well as combining them with a bit of Broken China Distress to brighten things up a bit!  Good stuff 🙂  I hope you like it!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 347} Saltwater Taffy Smiles

Today I’m sharing a bit of created play with the latest Distress color bundle (which I was a bit slow getting my hands on), Saltwater Taffy!  It’s such a pretty pinky coral tone that really is a shade I’ve found to be missing in the Distress line on more than one occasion- and as I’ve played with it I’m really seeing that it changes depending on the medium and substrate (surface) you use it on. It’ll be a fun one, for sure!   As I do when I get most of the new collections, I get a bit overwhelmed at first and just start out playing- just trying it out and then figure out what I’ll make with it later!  Today that ended up being a delicate tag, which is a bit of a stretch for me… but I’ll be experimenting with the wild side of Saltwater Taffy later, too!

For the tag today I used the regular Distress Ink, Spray Stain, Embossing Glaze & Paint.  I stamped and embossed floral outlines stamps on a tag as well as a sentiment on a smaller white tag with the Embossing Glaze.  I colored some narrow crinkle ribbon (seam binding tape) with the Distress Spray Stain & let it dry overnight.

I smooshed Distress Ink (along with Peeled Paint and Salvaged Patina) on my Kraft sheet to watercolor the flowers loosely, then did a bit of a sheer white paint wash over it and brushed some Distress Paint over the edges of the tag when it was done.

The die cut cut butterfly is honestly a bit of a random touch… I rubbed it in excess ink on my Kraft sheet and then misted it with Mica Spray for some grungy shimmer!  The under layer has a bit of white pencil & distress glitter over Kraft.

All in all, this tag is a bit pretty and a bit grungy and a whole lot Saltwater Taffy!  Hope you like it- I’m looking forward to playing with this new color some more!

Inky hugs (and fingers!)

Tuesday with Tara {take 342} Lucky Clover

Today’s card is just a little cutie 3.5×5″ card that would make a sweet gift or lunch box enclosure to brighten someones day!  The sentiment is a perfect one for so many of us… kids and artists alike, who struggle with owning up to our differences 🙂 It’s from an old set of ‘chit chat’ stickers by Tim Holtz, but I think I need it in a stamp…

This card was (very loosely. LOL) inspired by the current sketch at AAA Cards Challenge.

As I was setting up to take photos of the card, trying to work my little potted shamrock (oxalis) plant into the picture, I looked over and saw a planter on my patio that was sprouting up some wild clover amidst a few herbs that were beginning to make their comeback!  I found the light and nestled my card beside them and of course, it turned out to be my favorite pic!

I’m once again using the Lucky Love 3D Embossing/Cutting Folder by Tim Holtz, Sizzix.    I really love this 4 leaf clover and the possibilities of it, it can such a fun addition to so many projects but for this little one I wanted it to be the focal point.  I cut/embossed it from white card and inked it up with Rustic Wilderness Distress Oxide, then I dipped it in the same color of Embossing Glaze.  THEN I used embossing ink and dipped it again in the glaze for extra shine & dimension!

For the ‘marbled’ paint in the background, I’ve used Rustic Wilderness & Salvaged Patina Distress Paint together on a die cut Kraft panel.  I put a few drops of the Salvaged Patina and just one drop of Rustic Wilderness (it’s a deeper color so will overpower the blue if you use too much) and a tiny mist of water, then used my Air Blower tool (it’s not just for alcohol ink! LOL) to blend the colors and spread them across the panel.  I finished everything off with a few bits of bling and the sentiment sticker I mentioned earlier.

Whether you’re feeling lucky or not, I hope you have a happy day!

Inky hugs,

Tara
