Happy Blog Hop Day and Happy Fall Y’all!  We are excited to be celebrating all things FALL with you today!

We have a couple talented bloggers & card makers joining us as guests in the hop today in addition to our regular creative team members.  As always, there is a chance to win prizes and we are randomly selecting a winner for a $50 gift certificate from among all the comments left at each of the blogs.

I’m the lucky one to kick off the fun, and as you may have gathered from some of my recent cards, I’m featuring Autumn Blessings by MFT once again!  I had a card idea in mind, but tweaked it a bit at the end and added some PSL vibes 😉 so I hope you like it!

I colored up the pumpkins from the MFT set and the Pumpkin Spice Latte stamp by Lawn Fawn with Distress Ink & water.   They were all stamped on water color card stock with Archival Ink.  I cut them out with the coordinating dies.  I decided afterwards that this would be a fun project for Distress Embossing Glaze, so I used Clear Embossing Pen to color in the mug and glazed it to give a nice shiny mug!  I used the glaze over Clear Embossing Ink on the sentiment, which I stamped directly on the Kraft card base.

I really wanted to pair these pumpkins with Buffalo Plaid, but my new stamp didn’t arrive in time (I’ll have some fun with it in the near future though!) so I found some patterned paper to use.  A touch of silk ribbon and some glitter (Distress Stickles are the perfect ‘spice’ here… they are discontinued, but still a fave of mine.  Buy some if you find them!) are the finishing touches for my fun FALL card!

I’m not gonna lie, autumn cards are my favorite… so I know that everything the girls have for y’all in this hop will be completely fabulous!  Next up is a visit to see what Susan made!  Here’s all the links if you get lost or need to take a break along the way 🙂

Tuesday with Tara {take 267} Autumn Blessings

Happy Tuesday!  Today’s challenge word is “campfire” which may have had you wondering a bit… or maybe you are a big Distress Ink fan like me and you knew exactly what to expect- a project featuring the newest Distress color, Crackling Campfire!  I’m kinda loving how Tim Holtz is releasing a full set of each color at one time (and thankfully not too close together so my bank account can handle it) as it really lets you play and experiment with the different mediums.  I’ve used several on todays card, hope you like it!

Today’s card also features the gorgeous Skeleton Leaves die set by Tim Holtz.  I cut them from a piece of watercolor paper which I had inked up with Crackling Fire Distress Ink, as well as a bit of Fossilized Amber & Carved Pumpkin.  Once I cut the leaves, I added a bit more Crackling Fire- both Oxide & Regular Distress Inks, and a bit of brown to add some depth to the edges of the other two leaves.

I took a piece of book print which I had applied a thin layer of white gesso to and trimmed it down to size over a pewter layer.  After inking the edges, I splattered a mix of both sprays- the Spray Stain and the Distress Oxide Spray.  I was curious to see how they would differ on the prepared surface.  I misted it lightly with water and left it for a while… when it still wasn’t dry I misted it a bit more and pressed some tissue paper onto it to life some of the color and help it dry faster.  This gave a much softer background than I initially had, and some fun splotchy bits as the inks reacted with water.  FYI, most of the lighter spots are from the Distress Oxide Spray, the deeper from the Spray Stain.

The final element of my card is the sentiment- another one from Autumn Blessings by MFT.  I embossed it with the Embossing Glaze over the oxide ink on vellum for a soft finish.  A mini stapler (Tim’s Tiny Attacher) ads an easy & fun way to adhere the vellum.  I also added a bit of clear adhesive behind the sentiment so it would be hidden.

I hope you enjoyed my first play with Crackling Campfire!  You’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the near future… can’t wait to try different color combos with it, it’s such a gorgeous color perfect for autumn!

Tuesday with Tara {take 266} Yay, Fall!

Happy Tuesday and Happy OFFICIAL First Day of Autumn!  Yay, fall!  It’s my favorite time of the year as the days are getting cooler (my dog is happy too, since the heat and humidity are bearable to walk him in) and here in the south I’m beginning to see colors changing on some of the trees… so today’s card celebrates all of that!  I’ll say it again, yay, fall!

Today’s card uses some of the same materials as the card I shared last week.  The leaf & sentiment stamps are from Autumn Blessings by MFT and I’ve once again paired it with the Lumber 3D embossing folder.   The sentiment (perfect for today!) was heat embossed in copper on green card stock cut from a label die. I love copper with the autumn tones I used on the leaves- each which was watercolored quite imperfectly, but together make a pretty autumn display of color!  I was experimenting with Distress Oxide Ink & layering regular Distress Ink over it for a variety of tones for these leaves.  The woodgrain background was another experiment left from last week, this time much simpler.  I embossed on brown card stock then inked over it with a deeper shade of brown Distress Ink.  I learned with a design like this it is best to ink along with the grain of the design instead of against it as this gives more realistic shading (the back side of this same piece is not so pretty!).

I played around with a few different arrangements for my leaves, but am so glad I settled on this simple border intertwined with some thin jute.  Each leaf is slightly raised with a 3D foam square on one side and regular adhesive on the other.  I use this technique quite often to add dimension and depth without simply having a flat, raised layer.  I didn’t have any copper bling to add, but some warm brown gemstones adds extra shimmer across the card.
