Plus….Who says Friday the 13th is bad luck? Here’s your chance to win! Scrap’n Stamp is giving away a $25 coupon for every stop on the blog hop! I’ve been enjoying getting creative with the Paper Dolls by Tim Holtz, and these new additions add a creepy touch to the mix… there are a few seasonal images included, with costumes and pumpkins, as well as some regular type portraits with creepy expressions!  It’s a nice mix if you want a variety of paper dolls to work with!  I chose to use some of the ‘regular’  images and make a creepy/romantic tag, pairing a couple of single dolls together.
My plan was to create a set of tags that could be attached to treat bags for Halloween- if it happens, this one will go on the one I give my husband 🙂
I started with black #8 tags and Distress Oxide Ink, stamping a background pattern (new Myers by Dyan Reavely) directly on the tag, then applying the same ink through a stencil (birds by Dina Wakley) over it to create my background design (I am not a big Halloween crafter, so chose some ‘neutral’ designs that I thought would work with the overall feel I was going for.  It’s good to have basics in your stash!).  I selected my paper dolls and chose to add a few spots of color to them with Distress Markers.  I didn’t have a perfect match, but wanted a monochromatic look for this tag so went with a similar shade of purple.  The inky puddled a little bit in some places, so I dabbed with a cloth until I got the desired look.
I wrapped some sheer black ribbon with twine to add texture and finished it off with a metal embellishment (this fancy lock is by Prima) and some occasions chit chat stickers.
I created a couple more tags as well, which you can see all together here.   Here’s a shot of the backgrounds I started with…
… and the set of finished tags:
I hope you enjoyed my simple tag- I can promise you, you’re gonna be blown away by some of the spooky creations coming up in the hop.  Some of the ladies have a ton of fun Halloween themed products and they know how to rock it 🙂  Enjoy, and let us know what you think of the hop!  Remember there’s a chance to win a $25 gc on each blog!  When you’re all done, be sure to stop by the store and pick up some of the products that inspire you!  There’s some great deals today, including many items $13 off!

STAMPtember Blog Hop!

Welcome to our STAMPTEMBER blog hop!  We’re glad you have joined us and I hope you’ll enjoy the fresh inspiration from the ladies who are participating today!

We were each give a fun postage strip die set by Memory Box to create with- it includes a border die and a strip that cuts out 5 identical postage stamps.  This die is on sale right now for 25% and as you’ll see in the hop, it’s very versatile and a lot of fun!

I decided to make a tri-fold card and use the border die along the right cut edge.  I used my Scor-Buddy tool to measure the first fold (based around the layers I wanted to create behind my tag, it was 3.5″) then marked the second scoring line based on a standard 4.25″ card width. Once the border was cut, I was left with a center panel that is 4.25″ and two side panels that are 3.25″ each.  It’s a tricky fold to photograph… but here’s a look at my ‘closed’ card:

I stamped a small sentiment onto a postage stamp die and adhered it to my right panel, which I inked up with Distress Ink and misted with water for some subtle texture.

My tag features a Distress Oxide background on a kraft tag.  I die cut some words from Tim Holtz/Sizzix and paired them with a paper doll die cut.

The finishing touches on my tag are some yummy brown crinkle ribbon (dyed with the two colors of Distress Ink I used to ink the side panel on my card), a vintage key charm and a mini safety pin which I added a few seed beads to as a fun throwback to my childhood (tell me I’m not the only one who loved making ‘friendship pins’ and trading them)!  The layer of olive corrugated paper adds more fantastic texture, which is always an important element on my projects!

I hope you like my project… and I’m so excited for you to see what everyone else has done!  I love product based challenges like this because it’s so fun to see the variety that comes from working with a single item!  Happy hopping, and happy shopping!  There’s a lot of great product on sale in the store right now and tons that is fun & new!

Now.. check out the other great projects in today’s Blog Hop!  If you find any bad links or get lost along the way, please stop back here, all the links are listed below!

Tuesday with Tara {take 108} Christmas in July Blog Hop!

Happy Tuesday!  It’s July 25 and we’ve got a treat for you… another fun blog hop, this time with some Christmas in July fun!

The ladies have some really fun projects in store for you, all of them featuring a funky stocking die by Dee’s Distinctively!  The exciting news (apart from all the inspiration you’ll be getting!) is that this die is a FREE GIFT with purchases over $50 right now!  Yay for freebies!  You’re also going to see some gorgeous sparkle paper used in today’s hop, and it’s also available in the store, available in a multi pack or individual colors.

Unfortunately for me, I haven’t gotten my die in the mail yet to create with… so I haven’t got a new project to share with you today!  You can bet I’ll be making something fun with it when it arrives though, and I’ll share it with you even if it means a bit of ‘Christmas in August’ 😉  Just so I’m not completely out of the loop, here’s a flashback post for you to some cards I made that feature another Dee’s Distinctively die, a fun stacked tree.

Now let’s get on with the BLOG HOP fun!  Here’s the list of fabulously creative ladies that are hopping with us today:
