Heart Shaped Card!

Hello and welcome back! It’s Laurie with you today to share a simple, heart shaped card. I love getting the most out of my nesting die sets and making shaped cards is one of the best ways to use them.

You can use pretty much any shape you’d like but today I chose hearts. I’m using an older die set from Hero Arts called the Infinity Hearts Nesting Dies. I started by cutting two hearts out of white cardstock using the largest die in the set.

Next, take one of the dies and score along the top. In this case, I score 3/4″ which came to the dip.

Adhere the two pieces together using a double sided adhesive. Obviously, this card will not stand upright but there’s an easy fix. simply cut off the point of the heart on the back panel.

And now it will stand!

To decorate the front of my card, I used the second largest die in the set along with a piece of patterned paper from the Woodgrain Whimsy Paper Pad from MFT. I adhered that to the card base. And to keep with the die cutting theme of this card, I used the Freshly Picked Die Set (also from MFT). I used a bunch of scrap cardstock from my stash and created the bouquet.

The bouquet ended up being larger than I had anticipated but it worked out in the end. I adhered it towards one side of the card with the vase handing over the end. This didn’t interfere with the way the card stood up.

The sentiment comes from the You Make Me Smile Set from Gina K Designs. To make it fit on the card, I snipped the sentiment into individual words.  A few pearl accents, some white pen details, and I called this card finished!

Thank you for stopping in! I hope you found a little inspiration here today!

Until next time!!

One Layer Wonder Card!

Hello friends and welcome! Today’s cue word for the monthly challenge in “One Layer”. And I did just that!  This is difficult for me. I always love to add dimension to my cards whether that be with layers of cardstock or using foam adhesive. But honestly, I think I nailed it with this card!

I started by making a card base out of watercolour paper. I’ve never done this before as I think it’s a waste of valuable paper, haha. But in the end, I think it’s awesome and the only way to achieve an actual one layer card. I used the You Make Me Smile stamp set from Gina K Designs as my focal image. I used Versafine Smokey Grey Ink as I wanted to go for a more vintage look rather than stark black.

For the colouring, I used a set of Derwent water-colour pencils. I also had some help from my cat, Francis!!  After the colouring was done, I used some masking tape to mask around the image.

You can see I’ve chosen Tattered Rose and Antique Linen Distress Inks. I used these to add colour around the image. After removing the tape, it leaves a gorgeous frame/border.

I stamped the sentiment from the same set in the same Smokey Grey ink. And that’s when I called it done! No other embellishments added…which is also difficult for me!

I love how this turned out and hope you do too!!

Tuesday with Tara {take 242} Spring Hugs

Happy Tuesday!

If you’ve been following along with our ‘Random Acts of Cardness’ Challenge, you may have noticed that today’s theme is TRIO.  I’m sharing my twist on the theme in todays card, which features a trio of circles, flowers & leaves. I’ve also got the added bonus of using a HUG sentiment on my card.

I’ve used flowers & sentiments from another Gina K set called Hugs & Wildflowers.  I had some scraps of paper that had been inked up with Color Burst previously and decided to die cut three MFT stitched circles from the piece.  I ended up using the tiniest circle, which was a good pair with the tiny flower I stamped!  Once again I’m also using a leaf die cut from Tim Holtz.  I anchored all the individual pieces to another stitched die cut, this time a rectangle.  (I used a set by MFT, but this one by Lawn Fawn is in stock right now.) The big hugs sentiment seemed perfect considering our monthly theme, and I added a few vintage ‘chit chat’ stickers by Tim Holtz.  I think these may have been one of the first sets of stickers he released years ago!

As a finishing touch I added some white paint splatters to the kraft card base, which measures 5.5″ square.  I hope you like it and are feeling my hugs from afar… can’t wait to see your ‘TRIO’ designs on our facebook challenge page!

Inky hugs,

Tara
