More Cards Made with the NEW Cuttlebug A2 Embossing Folders & Combos

I just couldn’t stay away from all the new Cuttlebug embossing folders and combos! They are so much fun to work with. You know how it goes…one thing leads to another and pretty soon it’s 1 am and you can hardly keep your eyes open but it doesn’t matter because you’ve been in your own little world for the fast few hours and it’s all good.

Here are a few of my late night creations and there’s more on the way. They aren’t quite finished yet so they will have to wait for another post.

Enjoy! And…don’t forget that you can add comments to any of our posts – just use the box at the bottom. We love to hear from you.

card made with cuttlebug a2 embossing combo friends forever

I really liked how easy it was to make this card. The hardest part was keeping the ink on the embossed areas and I found that using a small foam tip applicator worked best for that. I used VersaMagic chalk inks in Pixie Dust and Sage because of the soft, matte finish that they give. Just remember, use a light touch and very litle ink when you are adding color to the embossed areas. You can alway add more if you need to. The saying and embossing folder come together in the Cuttlebug Friends Forever combo. There are six different combos and you can definitely mix and match between them. I found that the Bazzill cherry vanilla and aloe vera cardstocks worked great with these inks. A little pink rhinestone, some ribbon and it was done. Quick and easy.

One of the other A2 embossing folders that I couldn’t wait to try was the Floral Screen. The picture on the package doesn’t do it justice. The embossed image is great and worked really well on the next card.

For this card I chose French Vanilla cardstock and matted the embossed image with honeycomb and brown cardstock. The corner accents were cut from brown cardstock using one of the dies from the Cuttlebug Vintage set. And of course a little more inking, this time with VersaMagic wheat and pumpkin spice. I used the smallest dies in the Nestabilities Long Classic Rectangles and Long Classic Scalloped Rectangles to create the layers for the stamped saying which is from the Melissa Frances clear stamp set Simply Said. Instead of brads I opted for latte pearls. I think they went better with the overall look of the card.

Something I’d like to mention for anyone that is a beginner cardmaker is that one of th easiest ways to create a more interesting card is to pop up some of the layers with foam squares. It adds dimension and makes your cards look more polished. You don’t need to add them between every layer, just one and then pop up your embellishments with them too. You’ll be surprised at what a difference it will make.

And now, my last little card. And it is a little card. I had some scraps left from my assorted pack of Nostaligia Coredinations Color Core cardstock and I thought it would be fun to make a little note card that could be added to a bouquet of flowers or a gift bag.

This little card was so quick and easy that I’m defninitely going to make a few to have on hand. A set of these in an altered clear top tin would make a really nice gift. So, how easy are they? Well, all you have to do is cut the notecard with second largest Nestabilitie in the Long Classic Scalloped Rectangle set and score and fold it in half. Then cut a white mat about 2 1/8″ x 2 1/8″ and adhere to the card. Now take a 2″ x 2″ piece of  a lighter color of the Coredinations cardstock and emboss it with the folder in the Cuttlebug With Gratitude combo. TNow comes the fun part. Sand off the embossed area to expose the colored core. Add a little Stickles Diamond glitter glue to the centers of the flowers. Mount it onto the card from with foam squares, tie and little ribbon and you’re done! It’s a great way to use up some of your bits and pieces that are left over from other projects and we all have a few of those.

Hope these cards give you some ideas and inspiration.

Cards Made with the New Cuttlebug A2 Embossing Folders

We just received some of the new Cuttlebug A2 embossing folders, borders and cardmaking combos and couldn’t wait to share some of the cards I made with them. These new embossing folders are absolutely irresistible! I love how you can mix & match from the embossing border sets and the cardmaking combos. It makes them so versatile.

Hope these cards give you some ideas and inspiration.

card using cuttlebug A2 embossing folder leafy branch

I made this card in soft colors using Bazzill cardstock in aloe vera, horizon & white. First I embossed the white cardstock with the leafy branch embossing folder and then I used a sponge tip applicator to add sage VersaMagic chalk ink to the leaves. This chalk ink blends beautifully and I found that I could create shading on the leaves just by going over some of the areas a second time. The key here is to use very little ink and go lightly.

The border and corner embellisment were punched from horizon cardstock using the Paper Shapers Corner Adorner punch, Square Steps. It’s really easy to do and I hope I can describe it here so that it makes sense. Just cut a 1-2″ strip of cardstock the length you want your border. Carefully remove the ‘wings’ from your punch and turn it upside down so you can see the bottom. Line up the edge of the punch with the outer edge of your paper and make sure that the long edge of the cardstock is against the bottom of the punch, then squeeze. Now, move the punch along and line it up again with the side of the area you just punched and squeeze. Continue moving along until you have punched your border. To make the corern piece I just punched a corner slot with the wings on the punch and then trimmed it detach it from the rest of the cardstock. Just for fun I added a latte self-adhesive pearl in the corner.

The ovals were cut using the Big Shot and Spellbinder Nestabilities S4-112 Classic Ovals, Small and S4-113 Scalloped Ovals, Small and stamped with a saying from the Melissa Frances clear stamp set ‘Simply Said’ using aegean blue VersaMagic chalk ink. And for a little more pizzaz I added pearls instead of brads.

A little ribbon from on the side to finish it off and you have a simple, elegant card that would work for many different occasions.

card made with cuttlebug a2 embossing folder argyle

The second card was made with a whimsical stamp set from Amy Smyth called The Flourish Pack. I love this set! It’s got lots of little birds, butterflies, flowers and flourishes that are great for watercoloring. I cut the scalloped circle first from Bazzill white cardstock with Spellbinders Nestabilities S4-124 Classic Scallop Circles, Large and then stamped the bird with black StazOn ink and then watercolored the bird. The pink frame was cut with Nesties set S4-114 Standard Circles, Large from petalsoft cardsstock. If you need help with cutting frames using your Nesties check out my post about Nestabilities and chocolate. Are you just a little bit curious?

To make this card background I embossed white cardstock with the argyle embossing folder and then used pixie dust VersaMagic chalk ink applied direct to paper from the pad to highlight the raised areas. Again, a light touch is best otherwise you’ll get ink where you don’t want it.

A little ribbon and some layering and this card was done. It would be an easy one to adapt to a baby theme, get well or thank you. Flowers, die cuts or more embellishments could be added to give it a whole new look.

There are more card and scrapbooking projects on the way so check back soon!
