Christmas

Tuesday with Tara {take 375} Merry Bird

There’s just something about birds at Christmas- and this cutie is from a sweet set by MFT.  The set is called “Christmas Cardinals” but I took some creative license with my colors on this one, choosing to make his hat red instead!  I kept this card simple, pairing my bird with a bold, glittery ‘Merry‘ sentiment by Tim Holtz.

I layered the two elements over a book print circle (this one cut from an old technical manual I found) on a simple, clean white card.  A few pieces of bling finish it off and a bit of Nuvo glitter on the hat ties all the sparkly elements together!

This card might be a touch more than your basic CAS card, but it’s how I do CAS so I’m gonna say it counts!  I hope you like it 🙂

Inky hugs,

Tara

Red Mittens

I have named this card Red Mittens. Kia here with you today to share Red Mittens, which is an older stamp by Penny Black. I am using another older stamp, also by Penny Black called Berry Bramble.

I decided for this card that I would use Tombow markers for my colour, using only 4 markers, which I have linked to below. Several years back I cut this set to separate the mittens, as I wanted to use them differently. When perusing Facebook today I saw a card by Michelin Jourdain, and loved how she hung the mittens, hence I did my version.

When I finished colouring the berries and the mittens I painted on Tumbled Glass oxide ink using a damp paint brush. I then fussy cut the left mitten, styled it and arranged on the card. In my Misti I stamped the sentiment using VersaFine Clair ink in Blue Belle, with the joy done using VersaFine Clair Ink in Tulip.

I attached the piece to a Gina K Design Red Velvet card base, and added a bunch of splatters using Winsor Newton Gouache.

It was fun giving some love to my older stamps. I like to bring them out every now and then, and show them off. I do hope you have enjoyed this trip down memory lane.

Tuesday with Tara {take 374} Joy Birds

This card will look familiar if you participated in our Penny Black Inspiration Hop over at SNS last weekend!  (If you didn’t, it’s not too late! Start HERE & check out the fabulous makes by the rest of the team and be sure to leave a comments along the way & on my IG post for a chance to win!)  Today’s card is an ‘alternate’ for the card I shared during the hop, I’ve used the same design but different colors & coloring mediums!

I love the new Immense Joy die by Penny Black and immediately saw it as a frame for what I hoped would be quick & easy cards… paired with the sweet Holly Berry Birds stamp, it seemed a bit of an odd combination since both items essentially fill a card front.  I didn’t want to eliminate the pretty holly branches, so I chose to try my hand at the spotlight technique.  Since Kraft is my favorite neutral, I started there and added some bling with a glittery die cut.
It took some trial and error to get everything lined up… next time I’ll use my stamping platform to keep things straight!  But I did some quick coloring with Copic Markers on this one.  My other card can be seen on my personal blog here as well as on instagram!

If you’ve seen both cards… I’d love to know which is your personal favorite!  This is a card design that I could definitely see my self reproducing several times, once I get the spotlight angle perfected 😉

Inky hugs,

Tara
