Love is in the Air BLOG HOP

Hello and welcome to our January 2019 BLOG HOP “Love is in the Air”… we’ve already been seeing some stunning entries on our Facebook Challenge page for the challenge with this same theme, and today we are bringing you some sweet samples from our Creative Design Team!   We are a small group this month, but have seen some amazing entries for our Design Team Call and look forward to introducing several new members next month 🙂  As thanks for your comments on each blog along the hop, we’re giving away one $50 Gift Certificate and each designer will get to give away a Valentines gift pack (set of heart clear stamps, rub ons, red pen, and sparkly paper value $25). So please, leave us some LOVE as you visit our blogs!  Winners will be announced Jan 25 right here on the SNS blog!

I had a hard time getting started on this card… really hadn’t picked up any of the amazing new Valentine’s Day products yet, so I was looking for a fresh idea to use the products I already had to fit the theme!  I decided to go for it with the ‘air’ part of the theme and started thinking about birds & butterflies… and finally decided to see if I could create a heart full of a variety of fabulous die cuts!  I started with gathering up some dies I thought might have something I could use- words, birds, flowers, butterflies… The dies I chose were all from Memory Box & Sizzix and included a variety of sizes for me to work with.

Memory Box: Fancy Blossoms, Butterfly Delights, Resting Birds

Tim Holtz/Sizzix: Feather & Ravens, Funky Florals #2, Handwritten Love, 1″ Alpha Numeric

Next I inked up some watercolor card stock with a variety of Distress Ink.  I chose reds & corals for this project, and blended them with lots of water for a vibrant base.

My colors were Distress Ink: Festive Berries, Abandoned Coral, Ripe Persimmon, Candied Apple

Once the background was dry I placed it on my magnetic platform for my Sizzix Big Shot (a life saver when working with so many different pieces!) and fit as many shapes as I could onto the paper, then ran it through the Big Shot twice to make sure the detailed designs cut through the textured paper.

I did a rough heart shape cut by hand from some scrap paper and used it as my template to figure out a layout.  Because of the large size of my ravens, I decided to use a 5×7 card as my base.  Once i was satisfied with the design, I started arranging them on the background I had stamped (C-A-C Script Cover a Card background by Impression Obsession) and inked already.

I kept the rest of the card very simple, adding a pearl layer on the kraft base.  I added some clear rhinestones and Nuvo Glitter Drops in some of the open spaces of my design and finished it off with a bit of red foil around the edges of the heart design as well.

It was a fun project that used lots of patience and my trusty glue pen!

Next up on the hop, please visit:

Have fun!

Inky hugs,

Tara

All That Sparkles Blog Hop!

Welcome to our December blog hop!  This month we are celebrating ALL THAT SPARKLES and there is definitely a celebratory feel to the projects you’ll enjoy today along the hop!  As always, there are prizes to be given randomly to some of you who leave comments along the hop!  There will be a prize from each blog- a fun sparkly surprise pack (5 total) plus a $25 gift certificate to the SNS online store!  So please, leave us some love- we so enjoy reading your comments and hearing your favorite things about our projects!

We also have a challenge with the same theme on Facebook, which has already been so much sparkly fun!  You’ve got until the end of the month to play along with us there!

I decided to create a card with the Holly Collage Paper by Tim Holtz, and make it my most glittery element!  The roll is 6″ tall and I tore a piece to glue onto a 5″ card, crumpling it up a bit for extra texture.  I covered the card base with Multi Medium, smoothed out the crumpled collage paper over it and painted over it again to adhere it.  Once it was dry, I used a palette knife to scrape Nuvo Glimmer Paste over the entire surface, covering it in glittery, sparkly goodness!  I used the Moonstone paste, which is clear with shimmers in shades of gold, green & purple depending on the angle!  Definitely a sparkly background!

Once that was dry, I decided to go with a 5×7 card as my base, so I trimmed it down to 4.75″ wide and adhered it to the base.  I cut a rounded edge from a pearlescent cardstock to top my card, adding the Merry Cursive die cut from Memory Box across it (it’s a few years old, so not in stock… but there are plenty of other pretty ones, like this).  I die cut large holly leaves by Tim Holtz, inked them a bit and added some embossing powder for a bit of shimmer.  I added a mix of three different holly berries to finish my card.

My finished card design is simple, but oh so sparkly!  I hope you like it.  I still have a ton of collage paper left on the roll, so I just might be making more of these pretty backgrounds!  I apologize for the shadowy photos… but I wasn’t about to pass up a rare pre-Christmas snow fall as the backdrop to my pictures!

Now it’s time to visit the rest of the design team!  Hop on over and see what the girls have made…

Blog Hop & October Challenge!

Thanks for stopping by!  We are excited to have you join us for another fun blog hop with our design team, but are even more excited this month to be kicking off a new CHALLENGE, which will be hosted in a new group that has been created on facebook!  The theme for both is:

Purple, Orange & Green- not just for Halloween!

Take your inspiration from this palette of Distress Colors and create a project with mediums of your choice with a Halloween theme… or not!  We’ll get your started with our projects along the blog hop.  As usual, please leave comments along the way for a chance to win one of three $25 gift certificates!  (winners will be announced on October 26th).  Then create your own project and share it with us in the new Facebook group- one random participant will win a $50 gift certificate, and ALL participants will get a special discount code to use in the store!  We will accept entries until November 1 and announce the challenge winner on Nov. 2.

I’ll give you the full link up list at the end of this post… but it’s time for me to show you what I made!

I played around with three colors of Distress Oxide ink colors (wilted violet, spiced marmalade, twisted citron) and made a few backgrounds.  I really wasn’t sure where I was going with it, but decided to embrace the ‘not just for Halloween’ part of our theme and make a more ‘holiday neutral’ card (actually, I had my parents in mind making this… today is their 45th wedding anniversary!  Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad- sorry the card won’t be there anywhere close to on time!).

I stamped the images from the Delicate Pretty Poppies set by MFT in black on my colorful background and did a bit of shading with a black stablio pencil.  It’s a very pigment rich water based pencil, so I added a bit of shading and blended it out with a watercolor brush.  It gave me a very unique look on top of the Distress Oxide background… picked up a little of the color beneath it in some spots, but allowed for enough contrast to make my flowers pop against the background.  I tied some crinkle ribbon around the card with an oversized bow and added some Stickles details to the flowers- I was looking for a black like Black Diamond, but found Gunmetal so used that.  (It was still a bit wet when I took the photos, looks even better now!).  A pewter tag embellishment by Tim Holtz finished off my card…

I wasn’t sure about this card as I was working on it, but it’s definitely grown on me!  It’s a fun, unique color combo that definitely makes me think of Halloween… so I enjoyed mixing it up to create this card!  I can’t wait for you to see what the rest of the team came up with to share with you!

Remember to leave comments along the way for a chance to be randomly chosen to win a gift certificate!  And check us out on facebook and join our new Challenge Page to play along with us!  We can’t wait to see what you will create!

Inky hugs,

Tara
