HELLO THERE & HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  Thanks for joining me today as we continue the Throwback Thursday feature at the Scrap’N Stamp Blog!  As the ‘Season of Love’ is creeping into view, we’re going to share Love and Valentine’s themed projects for the next several TBTs to get ya’ll in the mood!!  Today, we’re going back to a project I created two years ago for the Eclectic Ellapu DT that I was on….

I gathered up my supplies that I’ll need for this project–let’s see, a 6″ pillar candle, some Distress Paints, some tissue paper & color Core’dinations stock, my Hearts layering stencil and my Tattered Pinecones die.

I stenciled pink & red hearts onto my tissue paper using little finger dabbers for each paint color.

I applied a light layer of matte gel to my candle and gently placed the tissue paper down and rolled the candle to let the tissue paper naturally fall onto the surface of the candle.  There were a few wrinkles, but I was able to smooth those down (for the most part) with an additional layer of matte gel brushed over the tissue paper.

I formed a bunch of paper roses with my Tattered Pinecone die and I’ve found a chipboard heart in my stash that I painted with a coat of gesso.

I applied a piece of stamped tissue paper to my gesso’d chipboard heart with matte gel and heat dried. Then I rubbed Worn Lipstick & Barn Door Distress Stains over the surface with my finger and heat dried, then I finished this heart with a layer of Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint, and let air dry.

Isn’t that crackly surface divine?  Before I adhered it to my candle, I rubbed Black Soot Distress Ink over the surface and edges to highlight those cracks!

I stamped the sentiment, from the TH/SA Simple Sayings set, onto tissue paper with Jet Black Archival ink and applied the ripped pieces to the candle with matte gel.

I wrapped the candle with some funky yarn, adhered the crackly heart with foam squares and hot glued the roses in place.  TA-DA!  That’s all she wrote!!  Pretty easy, right?  With just a few products and items, you can embellish a plain candle any way you need and you’ve got yourself a lovely new piece of home décor, or a unique gift to give.  Don’t be surprised if you see other seasonally decorated candles in the coming year! 🙂

TBT – Jingle Bell WOW

Well, HELLO THERE!!  Thanks for popping in for this week’s sneak peek installment of  Throwback Thursday for the Scrap’n Stamp Blog!!  We’re revisiting another Christmastime creation from two years ago-November 28, 2014…..

I’ve got a Christmas themed tag I made for two challenges, one of which is a ‘new’ one for me to enter; Fashionable Stamping Challenge and my ‘early’ entry for Compendium of Curiosities 3 at Studio L3!  At FSC Challenge #86 is to make A Christmas Tag and it’s challenge #16-Layering Stencil Embossing at CC3.  I’m going to try to turn any challenge makes into a card or tag for Christmas, so that I stayed motivated and multi-task with getting Christmas cards made!

In keeping with the rules and such with the CC3 challenge, I’m working from my copy of Tim Holtz’s Compendium of Curiosities 3 book-page 50, and not sharing the technique.  But, I can share the details of what I used to bring this tag together and how I used the Layering Stencil Embossing technique.

So, here you can see some of the items I’ve gathered to concoct this tag–I’ve got a #8 manila tag, some DIs in Broken China & Evergreen Bough & Scattered Straw is in there, too.  Of course there’s my copy of Tim’s CofC #3 and two of Tim’s Layering Stencils that I’m going to use.

I’ve been working with Tim’s Christmas Blueprints #5 and this is the jingle bell image from that set.  It’s fun and playful and a chance for me to go ‘non-traditional’ with color.  Here, I’ve stamped my focal image onto the tag with black pigment ink, then I heat embossed with black WOW embossing powder.

And just like that–I’ve got layers of color, stenciling and embossed stenciling!!  I layered my DIs on the tag first-Scattered Straw, Broken China & Evergreen Bough and heat dried.  Then I used the Stars LS with Broken China DP and heat dried.  I used the Layer Stenciling Embossing technique with that last layer of blue stenciling!  Isn’t that fun?!  I love that blue embossing!!🙂

Before I embellished, I flicked Bolivian Blue Twinkling H2Os and Picket Fence DP over the entire tag with a round paint brush.  The label & sentiment is from the Simple Sayings set.  I stamped the label image onto manila stock with Distress Embossing ink and heat embossed with Cornflower Blue EP from Wendy Vecchi.  I love that blue!

I did spritz one more layer of Pewter Perfect Pearls Mist spray over the tag!  I really was in a spritzing mood–it’s totally fun to do! Once I felt I’d done enough spritzing, I heat dried everything.  After all of that, I wasn’t about to smudge any of it!!  I positioned my collection of mirror stars and set in place with matte gel.

Here’s the backside of the tag–spritzed with Peeled Paint DS (from a mini-mister) and White Linen Dylusions ink spray through the Christmas LS.  I heat dried the sprays and blended a little bit of Broken China DI over the surface and rubbed Vintage Photo DI over the edges.

And yet, more spritzing!!  I stamped the jingle bell image with Distress EI onto manila stock and heat embossed with Silver EP.  I colored the bell with Scattered Straw & Mustard Seed DI’s and heat set.  Then I spritzed the bell with Sunflower Sparkle & Pewter Perfect Pearls Mists.  I fussy cut it and adhered to the tag with adhesive foam.

I used Chit Chat & Seasonal Chit Chat stickers to form ‘jingle all the way’.  I distressed the stickers a bit with Tea Dye & Black Soot DIs.  I attached them to the bell and tag with little strips of double-back tape and mini foam dots.  I tied a little bow out of silver cord and attached to the top of the bell with matte gel.

OH–I love these little itty bitty bells!  I have these silver bells (leftover from Christmas card creations past) strung on a piece of silver cord that I tied into the ribbon that tops the tag.  Now, the tag makes a little jingle noise when it’s shaken🙂

I’m really happy with how this tag came out.  Those little shadows of white stars in the background, with the shine of the mirror stars in the foreground could be my favorite parts of this tag…but I’m not biased or anything!!😉

TBT – Christmas But Not a Card

It’s Throwback Thursday and wether your cards are done or not this post is for you!  Although it is ‘Not a card’ it certainly wouldn’t take much to make it one! Enjoy this post from November 2014—

 Told ya’ll I’d be back soon!! Happy Sunday to my friends in the U.S.!!  Happy December 1st to my International friends!!  I’m here today with my first official blog post as an Eclectic Ellapu Design Team Member–WOOT WOOT!!  I’m stoked!!  I’m a member of the EE Purple Team and teammate PurpleCinn (aka Tabatha) chose the December theme and challenges us to create something for Christmas-But not a card!

OK–I’ve got something!!  I was inspired by Wendy Vecchi to try my hand at making my own home-made Christmas ornaments after reading her post at her own blog-Here and over at the Ranger blog, too-Here.

This is a proto-type ornament, of sorts.  I want to have a creative activity to share with my Mom-in-Law when she visits for Christmas, so I assembled a chipboard ornament and went to Christmas-town on it!!

This is how my ornament started out.  I cut out lots of 3″ circles (this was before I learned, from Wendy herself, that the wooden ornaments are 4″) and fashioned the toppers from a bunch of rectangles that I fussy cut and scalloped punched.  As I am a cheap frugal crafter, I save the boxes from dry cereal and reuse as my ‘chipboard’.  Each ornament has 3 layers of chipboard glued together and the toppers are just two layers.

I’m going to start by rubbing a layer of Picket Fence DP over the front and back of my ornament.

 I really like the whitewash effect the Picket Fence DP gave the chipboard.  It’s a great first layer of color!

My next layer is Salty Ocean DS that I rubbed onto my craft sheet then finger painted onto the painted chipboard.  I love how the color settled into the painted surface of the ornament.  It’s uneven and rough and super cool!!

I used my Harlequin LS with Chipped Sapphire DI to stencil dark diamonds onto the front of the ornament.  I quickly covered with Sticky EP and applied heat until just shiny.

I quickly covered the melted Sticky EP with Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter and let cool.

 Aren’t those glittery diamonds fun?  I was hoping they’d be a bit darker so that they’d stand out more, but I can fix that later on.

Here’s the back of the ornament–basically an unembellished version of the front!  But even this looks pretty good on its own😉

For the topper, I rubbed Distress Embossing Ink over the front and back surfaces and then dipped into my little tub of Silver EP and heat set.  DONE!!🙂

Then, I added some stamping through the Harlequin LS and I outlined the diamonds with a fine tip black gel pen.  I did splatter more Picket Fence DP over the surface and you can see in some places, it made the black gel pen run.  I LIKE it!!  I rubbed Chipped Sapphire DI over the edge of the ornament with my ink blending tool and heat set everything.

These layered snowflakes were cut from my Cricut machine with the Christmas Cheer cartridge.  I used a piece of silver embossed card stock and vellum and I layered those with painted rounds of tulle.  They were blinged out with little blue rhinestones and glued to the ornament with matte gel.

I made the word banners from white card stock stamped with a sentiment from my Sunny Holiday Messages set from Hero Arts.  I inked the edges with Chipped Sapphire DI and adhered with matte gel.  I’m making sure nothing is falling off!!

I finished by stringing color coordinated glass beads onto silver cord and tying onto the topper to form a hanger.  Not too bad for my very first, homemade chipboard ornament!  And this is versatile, too–It can serve as a special Christmas gift tag or even as a nice way to send a note, because of the bare backside!  I love my backsides for note writing!!😉
