Today’s Prompt is Birds

Welcome to the weekend, my friend! It’s Deb here, for the Scrap ‘N Stamp Design Team. Today’s prompt is ‘birds’, for the daily challenge. If you haven’t checked this out, you should! The challenge takes place on the Scrap ‘N Stamp FB challenge page HERE. You’ll see a word prompt for each day of the month. To join, simply create your card, and share a picture of it in the group. Be sure to use the hashtag #snschallenge, so it gets noticed!

BIRDS FOR SPRING

We have a LOT of birds that visit our house daily, for the food we put out. It can get pretty busy out there, and it’s always fun to watch. So I thought this would be a good word, especially for Spring. I created two cards to share today, both using the Penny Black Wreath & Wings stamp set.

Today's Prompt is Birds

For this card above, I used my Zig Real Brush Clean Color Markers and a Mini Mister, for a soft watercolour effect. When doing this effect with multiple colours, it’s important to use your stamp platform. Once the wreath is stamped, remove it, and line up the pair of birds. Stamp them, and then lightly watercolour. To watercolour the birds, I wet the area, and then put down some ink with a marker. Next, use a water brush to spread the ink.

Stamp the sentiment from the Poppystamps Diamond Sentiments stamp set, in Versamark ink. Cover it with gold embossing powder, and heat set.

Today's Prompt is Birds

I wanted to add a touch of sparkle, so I used the MFT Winter Stencil Strips, masked off a few of the dots, and applied the Stickles Glitter Gel ‘Super Nova’ in random areas. (those aren’t messy blotches!) Finally, lightly blend some Broken China Distress ink around the edges of the panel, before layering it onto the card base.

BIRDS AND FLOWERS

Of course, Spring is also the perfect time for new flowers! This time, I combine the Wreath & Wings with another Penny Black stamp, called Perfect Pairing.

The flowers are from the Perfect Pairing set, and the bird is from the Wreath & Wings.  Stamp the images in Nocturne ink, and heat set clear embossing powder over top. Use your markers to colour; I chose to use Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend Markers in Light Green, Bright Pink, and Citrus, plus Copics for the bird. The sentiment is from the Perfect Pairings stamp set, stamped in dark pink ink.

The gorgeous sparkle paper behind the card front is from the Memory Box Graceful Garden Glitter Pad – it has a gorgeous selection of glitter cardstock! A few clear drop embellishments finish off this cheerful, very spring-like card.

SUPPLIES

I hope that you enjoyed today’s two happy cards, for today’s prompt of birds! The supplies to create them can all be found in the Scrap ‘N Stamp store. GIVEAWAY DETAILS

Easy Embossing Hack & Giveaway!

DIAMOND SENTIMENTS

Today’s card is for the Scrap ‘N Stamp daily challenge word prompt of ‘flowers’.  Having just gotten my order, I knew which stamp set I was going to use; the Diamond Sentiments set from Poppystamps. I wanted to do a subtle background for my card, but couldn’t decide on which embossing folder or die to use. Stay tuned for the hack!

Easy Embossing Hack & Giveaway!

I chose the Diamond Sentiments bundle, as it comes with the coordinating die to cut out the stamped shape. Originally, that’s what I chose for my Giveaway – but then they sold out! You can ask to be notified when it’s back in stock, though!

First, set up the stamp and watercolour paper in your stamp platform. Cover the stamp with Versamark ink, and stamp firmly. Repeat this at least 2-3 times, to ensure good ink coverage, due to the texture of the watercolour paper. Next, cover the stamping with gold embossing powder, and heat set. Nope – this is not the ‘easy hack’ – that’s coming soon! Next, select one of the many sentiments from the stamp set, and repeat the Versamark stamping. This time, cover the sentiment with the new WOW Sea of Tranquility embossing powder, and heat set. Use your Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and a water brush to colour in the flowers and leaves. Now, use the coordinating die with your Big Shot, and die cut the image.

EASY EMBOSSING HACK

Here comes the hack! I decided that I just wanted some embossed lines on my background, but I didn’t have a stamp or die to use. Here’s how to create the heat embossed lines, without Versamark ink, or a stamp or a die. Set up a piece of cardstock in your stamp platform, or any piece of lined paper. Add strips of double-sided adhesive tape, using the lines on the paper as your guide. Now, remove the covering from the strips of tape, and cover the tape with the same Sea of Tranquility embossing powder. Use your heat tool, and set the powder! Voila –  you now have perfectly embossed lines, in the colour you want! The stickiness of the tape, combined with the heat, act to bond the powder to the tape. Just give it a few seconds to cool down, and you’re done.

Another great thing about using the tape is that it comes in different widths, and you can create your own pattern or design!

Now add your die cut to the embossed panel using foam tape or squares, and then attach the whole thing to a blue card front, with more foam tape. Finish off the card front by adding some embellishments. I used my Gina K. Clear Quartz Solid sequins; I really need to order more colours!

COMMENT TO ENTER THE GIVEAWAY!

Don’t forget to leave a comment here, before you click away! The entry deadline is March 31st, and the winner will be randomly chosen, and announced after that. Be sure to follow ALL of the Design Team posts, as each of us has our own Giveaway! That’s a lot of chances to win a prize.

Get Cozy for the Daily Challenge

Happy Saturday! It’s Deb here, for the Design Team. Are you ready to get cozy for the Daily Challenge on the Scrap ‘N Stamp Facebook page? Cozy is today’s word prompt, and I hope that you’ll play along with me today. Once your project is complete, share a photo of it on the Challenge page HERE. Be sure to use hashtag #snschallenge, so that it won’t be missed! I’m looking forward to seeing what you create.

COZY CABIN

I got literal, and used the Cozy Cabin stamp set from Penny Black! This is my first time using it, and I know I’ll be using it a lot more. Penny Black is one of my favourite stamp lines, for scenic stamps.

Get Cozy for the Daily Challenge

It sure does look cozy though, doesn’t it?

CARD DETAILS

Start with a piece of smooth white cardstock. Set up the the cardstock and the stamp in your stamp positioner. This will allow you to stamp with different ink colours, without worrying about lining up the image each time. First, cover the trees with Gina K. Fresh Asparagus ink, and then stamp. Next, cover the cabin with Gina K. Faded Brick ink, and stamp. Stamp the chimney smoke with a light gray ink.

To create the sky, lightly blend on Broken China Distress Oxide ink. To create the snow, you have a couple of choices. I was too lazy to get up & get my Texture Paste, but that can be used. Or, you can use a white gouache paint, which I had already on my table. To make the snow ‘thicker’, apply the gouache directly, without watering it down. Use a small brush and add the paint or texture paste to the cabin roof, the ground, and a bit on the trees.  Next, add some falling snow by diluting the gouache with water, and flicking it on with a small brush.

Get Cozy for the Daily Challenge

In the photo above, you can see how the undiluted gouache creates a raised 3D effect for the snow.  I also used my Nuvo Midas Touch Shimmer Pen to add some shine to the windows.

Stamp the sentiment from the Poppystamps Christmas Quotes stamp set in dark blue ink. Next, use the Big Shot with the coordinating dies. Add the sentiment across the bottom, using foam tape. Finally, attach the card front to a dark blue card base.

JOIN THE CHALLENGE!

I hope that you enjoyed seeing my Cozy Cabin card, and that you’ll get cozy for the Daily Challenge, too! Feel free to interpret cozy however you want, to make your own project. Play along with as many days as you want; you don’t  have to join every single day. At the end of the month, one lucky person is randomly chosen, and will WIN a $50 Gift Certificate to Scrap ‘N Stamp!
