Winter is Coming

Despite the title, this post isn’t about Game of Thrones (for those of you who are fans). But yes, winter is coming!  It’s hard to believe that we still have almost a month until the start of winter. You may have read or seen on the news the devastating rain & flooding that we’ve had here in B.C., which is were I am, and the Scrap ‘N Stamp store.  I’m very thankful that the area in which I live is relatively unaffected. But I’m very sad for those who have been displaced, lost their homes, and all of the animals (pets, livestock and wild) that have suffered. Wherever you live, I hope that you’re safe!

ACTS OF CARDNESS PROMPT

Over on the Scrap ‘N Stamp Facebook page HERE, you’ll find the daily word prompts for the Random Acts of Cardness.  The idea behind the challenge is that it will get everyone making cards daily, but not just making them. Sending them!! Yes – you’re supposed to be giving or mailing your daily creations! At this time of year, it’s not that difficult. For today’s prompt I chose the word ‘winter’, so that you can make this as one of your holiday or Christmas cards.

I pulled out one of my favourite sets from last year, by Colorado Craft Company. It features the whimsical art of Anita Jeram, in a stamp called Kittens & Mittens.

Winter is Coming

Aren’t those kittens adorable?! I can’t wait to get my hands on the latest release, coming soon to the Scrap ‘N Stamp store.

CARD DETAILS

Start with a panel of watercolour paper. Wet the paper with either a spritzer or water brush. Smoosh the Faded Jeans Distress Oxide onto your craft mat, and then pick it up & apply it with a water brush. I did a heavier application on the top for the sky, and then lightly on the bottom. Sort of a reflection of the sky onto the snow. Allow the panel to dry, or speed it up with a heat tool.

Next, stamp the Kittens & Mittens in Nocturne ink. Choose your colours; I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and a water brush to paint. The colours I chose are Light Gray, Carmine Red, Beige, Yellow, Brown, Blue and Blue Gray.  After colouring the kittens, add some shadows under their feet, using the Light Gray marker.  You can see on the blue hat that the area wasn’t quite dry – so I went with it, added more water, and made it a fuzzy hat!

Now, use the snowflake stamp with Versamark, and stamp it across the top. Cover it with white embossing powder, and heat set.  I felt like the snow wasn’t standing out as much as I wanted, so I added some splatters of watered down white gouache paint.  While this is drying, stamp the sentiment onto a piece of bright blue cardstock in Versamark, and again emboss with white embossing powder.  Attach the sentiment to the top of the card front, and then wrap some silver cording across the bottom.

Attach the card front to your bright blue card base using foam tape. Finish off the card by adding a small Nuvo Cherry Heart.

Winter is Coming

Anyone who receives this card is guaranteed to smile!

About the Gifts

Unless you’re a young child, you know that the holidays are not just about the gifts. (unless you’re really, really hoping for that pony you’ve wanted since you were a kid!). For today’s card though, it’s all about the gifts, since that is today’s word challenge! Hi there, it’s Deb here today, for the Design Team.

GIFTS WORD PROMPT

If you’re playing along with the Scrap ‘N Stamp daily challenge, then you’ll know that each day there’s a new word prompt. Since we’re getting close to Christmas, I chose ‘gifts’ as today’s word.  And if you’re not playing along – why not? It’s super easy, fun and free! Not only that, for every time you share your project to the challenge page on Facebook HERE, you’re automatically entered to WIN a $50 Gift Card to shop at Scrap ‘N Stamp!

I pulled out one of my favourite stamp & dies sets from 2 years ago – I thought it was from last year, yikes! Time flies! It’s called Secret Santa, by My Favorite Things.

About the Gifts

Since the prompt is gifts, I decided to really pile them on! It reminds me of when my boys were young, and everything seemed to come in big boxes, so under our tree extended half way through the living room.

CARD DETAILS

On smooth white cardstock, stamp Santa & tree once, and then stamp all of the presents twice, in Nocturne ink. Use your Copic markers (or other favourite brand) for colouring.  Add some highlights with a white gel pel, and then die cut all of the images with your Big Shot.

Using some basic masking, I separated the sentiment onto 2 strips of white cardstock, again in Nocturne ink.  Now, create your red card base, with a layer of green cardstock on top. Add a stitched oval die cut from patterned paper, glued on top.

Next, layer all of the die cut pieces, some glued directly to the card front, and some popped up using foam squares. Add the sentiment across the bottom – perfect admonition for the presents, right?

About the Gifts

I think that Santa is counting on you to keep the secret about what’s in the gifts!

PLAY ALONG!

I do hope that you’ll play along with the challenge, whether you choose today’s prompt, or any other. There’s no limit – you can play along with as many days as you want! At the end of the month, one lucky person is randomly chosen, and gets the $50 Shopping Spree at Scrap ‘N Stamp.

When you’re shopping, be sure to use my Designer Discount Code 10DEB, to get 10% OFF your total order (regular priced items).

Word Prompt Challenge for Fun

Hi creative friend! It’s Deb here, for the Design Team. Today I’m here for the word prompt challenge for “FUN”. Yes, it’s fun, but the word is actually ‘fun’!

BIRTHDAY WISHING

Now, everyone has different ideas of what is fun. It can be an activity, or reading your favourite book, maybe going to a movie. Or, just sitting with friends. I decided to turn fun into a verb, instead of an adjective – with this fun, interactive card!

Okay, so the front of the card doesn’t give too much away. The glitter cardstock and embellishments hint at something, though. To create the card front, simply die cut the MFT Birthday Wishes Die-Namics from green cardstock. Glue it onto a piece of Memory Box Glitter cardstock (the pack I have is retired, but there’s new packs in store!). Add some Memory Box Fairy Gemstones (Winter Fantasy), and then attach this panel to your card front.

CARD DETAILS

As I explained, I’ve hurt my back, so I had to figure out a card that would be fairly quick to make. The Photo Play Pop Up Card Kit is a life (or back) saver! This pack includes everything you need to create 6 pop up cards. All you need to add is your creativity, some paper and stamps.

Before following the simple directions to attach the pop up piece, add your coloured cardstock to the inside of the card base. On the left side, I stamped 2 sentiments from the Colorado Craft Company Birthday Wishing stamp set in a dark green ink. Next, stamp the balloon holding bunny from the same set in Nocturne ink, onto a piece of white cardstock. Use your favourite markers to colour him and the balloon – I used my Copic markers.

Now you can attach the pop up mechanism to the inside of the card. Next, attach a slightly larger piece of the same glitter paper, behind the bunny, and then attach both to the top of the pop up piece.  Stamp another sentiment onto white cardstock, trim, and attach it to the bottom right, below the bunny. The photo below shows how the pop up mechanism looks like, from above.
