Tuesday with Tara {take 360} Let it SNOW

Happy Tuesday!

In my mind, I feel like I should avoid ‘snowy’ cards when I’m working on Christmas in July projects… but here I am, sharing a snowy card inspired by today’s SNS Challenge word: WHITE.

Perhaps you remember that I had a bit of an oops with a bottle of White Dina Wakley Media Gloss Spray several weeks ago (see the card & read about it here).  Since I had a puddle of white on my desk, I started grabbing papers & tags and assorted other things and dipped them in the puddle.  I suspected that since it has a glossy finish it would be fun for a resist technique, and I was right!  This card front was plain white Cardstock, which I dipped & dripped and splattered and left to dry.

I die cut the sentiment (Tim Holtz Festive Words) from Glitter Cardstock and added some color blending to the solid layer behind it.  I found a couple of Scribbly Snowflakes left over from last year’s holiday crafting and while I don’t recall what colors I used, I took inspiration from them for the palette on this card- keeping the background softer to let them stand out.

I went to my old faithful, Distress Inks to do some color blending over the card- a subtle mix of Stormy Sky, Salvaged Patina & Chipped Sapphire.  Once it was blended, I spritzed with some water and wiped off the card to really make those glossy bits pop!

I finished everything off with a few sequins and mounted it on a light blue card base.

Hope it gets you thinking about the Christmas creations you might start making this month… and the shopping you’ll do during our upcoming Christmas in July event, celebrating with 12 full days of inspiration and savings!

See you soon!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 354} butterfly wish

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m sharing a super simple but bright & cheery card inspired by the SNS Challenge word “blend”… my background layer started as a stamped background I made that I just really didn’t like.  I decided to pull out some paints and do a subtle ombre blend over it to make it something I could use!

I blended together Distress Paint in Speckled Egg, Salvaged Patina & Cracked Pistachio, from left to right across the Cardstock.  I trimmed the outline portion of the butterfly from this card and layered it over some corrugated scraps I’d splattered and sprayed over with some Dina Wakley paints (which gave it a glossy finish). I added a spritz of mica spray for extra shine!

I finished off the card with more simple die cutting- bold text cut from my background (yep, that’s the ‘wish’ I used on last week’s card!) and a deckled edge and a bit of twine!

That’s really all there is to this card- super simple, ready to be shared with a friend 🙂

Inky hugs,

Tara

Tuesday with Tara {take 322} Awesome

Happy Tuesday!  I hope your day is AWESOME!  I’ve been looking forward to playing with my new awesome stamp & die sets from Photo Play’s Stay It With Stamps Line!  I’m primarily featuring the die on this card, but you see a small bit of the stamp set here as well.  There is a huge variety of sentiments in this set that lets you use the word for almost any occasion that calls for some awesome!

I really wanted to make an autumn card, but something about being a child/teen in the 80’s took me in a different direction… I keep a pile of scraps and backgrounds that I’ve made to use for quick cards, and this crazy colorful one from some play with Dina Wakley Media Gloss Sprays felt very 80’s awesome to me!  I used a bunch of colors, but I decided to bring focus on the deep night shade in the corner and use that for my die cuts & stamping.

I used VersaFine Clair in Twilight to stamp the sentiment and the background text behind the awesome die cut.  A leafy branch cut from that same deep blue shade anchors it all together, while filling in some white space in that inky background!

I finished everything off by edging the background piece with blue ink (I literally grabbed a blue inking tool and used what was on it… most likely Prize Ribbon Distress Ink) and mounting on a light Kraft background.  A bit of bling, including one a bit larger than I normally use, seemed to fit this bold but simple card design.

Thanks for visiting!  Have an AWESOME day!

Inky hugs,

Tara
