Tuesday with Tara {take 325} Awesome, Deer

Happy Tuesday!  Today is the day I get to wish my awesome husband happy birthday… another trip around the sun!  I kept this card as simple & masculine as I could, while using some fun products.  Hope you enjoy!

I knew I wanted to use the Darling Deer dies for this masculine card, and I selected two from the set that would fit well together on a mini slimline card (this one is 6.5×3.5″).  I recently got the Storyteller 6×8 pad by Vicki Boutin, and I thought this would be a fun project for it- I learned that I am *very* out of practice with using patterned paper!

After cutting both the deer and the awesome sentiment from Kraft Cardstock, I played around with my layout on a 3×6 layer of the patterned paper I selected.  The stripes on this piece I selected were a fun way to highlight the sentiment and give a design element without extra layers.  I stamped the rest of the sentiment before adhering the die cut word & the deer in place.

I found the top left corner needed a little something more, so I pulled out the text stencil, also from the Storyteller line, and added some subtle brown inking through it.  It’s no mistake that I chose the part that says ‘wild soul’ 🙂

I tried several colors of card base before I settled on this teal color- it wasn’t quite right until I added a bit more brown Distress to soften it.  I also tied the layers together by stamping some Sketch Greenery branches in a dark blue (the same Versafine Clair Twilight ink I used for the stamped portion of the sentiment) around the edges.

All of this to tell my “deer” hubby how awesome I hope his birthday is!

Inky hugs,

Tara

A Colourful Birthday!

It’s a colourful day on the blog! I’m sharing a birthday card for today’s Random Acts of Cardness challenge: COLOURFUL! (I went birthday today, but this prompt certainly works for Christmas in July cards, too!) Here’s my card:

I’m using stamps and dies from Concord & 9th called Top It Off. (stamps here and dies here) I love how I was able to fill the entire card front with the cake and toppers. The cake and candles are stamped in various colours of Memento ink – with the help of Versamark on the cake layers so I could sparkle them up with embossing glitter! For the candles, I glitzed up their flames with Liquid Stardust – if you haven’t tried this, it easily adds the most beautiful shimmer wherever you want it! Of course, I was trying to photograph this on a thunderstorm-y day, so I couldn’t come close to capturing the glitter and shine. The “eat cake” topper is cut from purple cardstock. The card base actually comes from a blue cardstock pack, but it’s a purply blue. 😉

I have to show you the inside of my card, as I used one of my favourite parts of the stamp set:

Birthday cake, yum… 😀

Birthday Bash Blog Hop {March 2021}

Welcome to our Scrap ‘N Stamp March 2021 BIRTHDAY BASH BLOG HOP!  We’re so glad you’re here to join us in celebrating the birthdays of both SNS & our bold boss lady, Raya!   Along with a link up of a bunch of fabulous birthday cards, we are giving away a $50 gift certificate to one reader who leaves us a comment and having a 10% off Birthday Sale on birthday related stamps & dies (cakes, candles, sentiments, etc).  The sale ends Monday at midnight EST.

Today I’m sharing a card that is fairly easy to put together for one of those last minute occasions… easy to customize for the recipient and assemble quickly.  The star of the show is my current fave birthday die, Birthday Wishes by MFT.  This pretty script works well with a variety of images and can also handle being the star of the show.  I wanted to play some more with Kitsch Flamingo, so I paired it with some yellows & oranges (including Crackling Campfire).

I cut the die from a glossy adhesive backed Cardstock, then used Distress Paint & a foam applicator to add some ombre shading over it.  Once it was dry, I adhered it to a circle I’d die cut from book print and inked around the edges with Kitsch Flamingo.  It didn’t stand out quite as well as I wanted it to, so I added a bit of shading with a black watercolor pencil, which I blended out with a spica glitter pen for a bit of extra shimmer.

For the background, I stamped a large floral design (Glorious Bouquet by Tim Holtz) in a couple shades of Distress Oxide Ink on Kraft (oxide ink & Kraft will forever be one of my favorite combos!) and mounted it on a peachy card base, which I also inked with Kitsch Flamingo.  I wanted a bit more depth, so I also splattered the entire background with Crackling Campfire Distress Oxide Spray.

I know my card is pretty simple, but I’ve seen some peeks and I think you’re going to be inspired by what you see next!  Here’s the full hop order:

Next up is your first look at our newest member of the design team, Lindsey!  We are so thrilled to have her join us and start sharing inspiration here on the SNS Blog!  Welcome to the team Lindsey!

Thanks for hopping with us!  Be sure to leave your comments & share some love- maybe you’ll win a $50 GC to go shopping with in the SNS online store!  Don’t forget to shop & save 10% on birthday treats this weekend too!

Inky hugs,
