A Colourful Birthday!

It’s a colourful day on the blog! I’m sharing a birthday card for today’s Random Acts of Cardness challenge: COLOURFUL! (I went birthday today, but this prompt certainly works for Christmas in July cards, too!) Here’s my card:

I’m using stamps and dies from Concord & 9th called Top It Off. (stamps here and dies here) I love how I was able to fill the entire card front with the cake and toppers. The cake and candles are stamped in various colours of Memento ink – with the help of Versamark on the cake layers so I could sparkle them up with embossing glitter! For the candles, I glitzed up their flames with Liquid Stardust – if you haven’t tried this, it easily adds the most beautiful shimmer wherever you want it! Of course, I was trying to photograph this on a thunderstorm-y day, so I couldn’t come close to capturing the glitter and shine. The “eat cake” topper is cut from purple cardstock. The card base actually comes from a blue cardstock pack, but it’s a purply blue. 😉

I have to show you the inside of my card, as I used one of my favourite parts of the stamp set:

Birthday cake, yum… 😀

Let’s Foil

TGIF! Not just any Friday, but the Friday of the long weekend and the unofficial start of SUMMER here in Canada, yay! Lindsey here on the blog today with a card for today’s Random Act of Cardness prompt: FOIL. I do have the Gemini FoilPress, and love the combination of foiling and letterpress effect that it gives, but I also enjoy foiling with a stencil and my die cut machine! So easy to do, and adds yet another way of using my stencils. And since it’s the Friday of a long weekend, here’s my card!

Rainbow martinis, yes please! I’m using a Martini Glasses stencil from Picket Fence – it’s out of stock at the moment, but more are on the way! I started by masking off the middle of my card panel, then applied some transfer gel duo through the stencil using this little squeegee (best deal ever!), then left it to dry for an hour or so while I cleaned off the stencil and worked on another card. (Sure, I could have done housework or something, but why? :D) Once the gel had dried and turned clear, I cut a couple of pieces of rainbow shattered glass foil to fit my stencilled image, and ran it through my die cutting machine. And pow, shiny foiled martini glasses! I added the sentiment and embossed it with glitter embossing powder. (I know, I’ve used this sentiment before, but it’s my current favourite!)

Have you tried foiling? I’d love to hear in the comments, or see your foiled creations on the Scrap N Stamp Challenge Facebook page! Don’t forget to tag your posts with #snschallenge on IG and other social media. Have a great weekend!

Bling & Blossoms Blog Hop

Happy Blog Hop Day!

You are in for a treat this weekend, as our design team shares their makes featuring lots of bling and beautiful blossoms!  We will be giving away another $50 gift certificate to one special person who leaves comments along the way and since it’s also Mother’s Day weekend, each of you can go ahead and pamper yourself with 20% off your purchase in the SNS online store (use promo code Pamper).

My card today was going to be a Mother’s Day card… but when I went to my dies to find some alphas to use, I noticed the ‘miss you’ sentiment and decided it was perfect for my mom, who I really miss since she’s so far away!

I’m featuring a card with the gorgeous Brushstroke Flowers #1 (numbers 2 & 3 are also gorgeous, I just don’t have them yet!) and a fab ‘miss you’ die by MFT.  (It’s out of stock right now, but there’s several other fab ones, like this one by Penny Black!).

I cut a heart shape out of some corrugated paper that I had previously used as a backdrop for some paint I was spraying… it has layers of color, but ended up a really pretty green that I think looks lovely with the die cut flower!  I added a bit of crocheted lace around it for extra texture.

I chose to finish off my card with a non-traditional sort of bling, Quote Flair by Tim Holtz.  Since it doesn’t actually sparkle, I also added a few gems and misted some Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls on the die cut words and the corrugated heart. (I used the mist, but you can make your own by mixing some with water in a spray bottle or mini mister!)

I tied a sloppy bow with some thin crinkle ribbon that I had previously inked in shades of yellow and nested the quote flair in the middle of it.  It adds a bit of softness next to the gloss of the quote flair.

Once the individual pieces were assembled, this card went together fairly easily and without much fuss… just the way I like it!

I imagine, like me, you are looking forward to seeing the rest of the makes from the team.  Next up is Deborah, and it’s sure to be sparkly and fabulous!

Here’s the full hop order:

Happy Hopping!  Don’t forget to leave comments along the way for your chance to win 🙂
Inky hugs,
Tara
