Tuesday with Tara {take 256} Mug of Sunshine

Happy Tuesday!  Today I’m bringing you a big ol’ Mug of Sunshine, combining images & words from ‘Hello Sunshine Turnabout‘ by Concord & 9th with ‘I Like Big Ones‘ by Picket Fence Studios and a fab oldie, the ‘Rays‘ stencil by Tim Holtz.

For the card background, I inked the Rays with two shades of Distress Oxide ink, Fossilized Amber & Spiced Marmalade.  I blended them with a broad Life Changing Blender Brush.  I like to work from light to dark, so went from the outer edges of the stencil towards the center.  I heat embossed the ‘Big One’ mug in Letter It Navy Embossing Powder on deep yellow card stock, then blended some ink onto it for some shading.  I stamped the sunshine design in the same Marmalade ink over the image, then added the sentiment in navy ink over them.

I finished off the card base with some crinkle ribbon wrapped around a blue textured panel.  I added a few sequins for a bit of extra shimmer- these are from the Ocean Breeze set by Picket Fence Studios.

I hope my card brings some SUNSHINE to your day!  I know a lot of BC is getting a ton of rain right now… if I could, I’d gladly share some of my heat & southern sunshine with you!

Tuesday with Tara {take 216} Without Coffee

Happy Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday with Tara! Today is the day a lot of kids & teachers are officially back in the swing of things with a new school year! I thought some more rainbows & coffee would be in order to help you get through the day! I’m sharing another fun rainbow card with the Coffee Understands stamp set by Picket Fence Studios, this one questions what we would do without coffee. As you can see by the sentiment, it’s probably best that we don’t find out the answer! ha!

Simple Design.

There is something about this stamp image that makes me want to keep my card fairly simple. I love how long & lean she is (total opposite of me!). It looks like she’s got her priorities straight, coffee in one hand, ready to take on the world (or a classroom, at least)!

Bold & Colorful.

Just because a card is simple does not mean it can’t be bold & colorful! I paired bold black & white with a colorful rainbow panel I inked up with a variety of Distress Oxide Inks. The colors blend together so nicely and it ends up looking like I used a wider variety of colors than I actually did! Curiosity got me wondering what would happen if I stamped with a watermark ink pad over my inked rainbow… and I was pleased with how it came out! (I used Versamark, but I’m guessing this Gina K Embossing & Watermark Ink would work just as well!)

Details.

As I mentioned earlier, I tried to keep this card pretty simple. The stitched details from the edge die (by MFT) are repeated on the white card front and the black strip beside it. I stamped with bold black ink and repeated the sentiment in watermark on the rainbow panel. A single cup design from the stamp set was also repeated to fill in the gaps. Then I chose a few colors from the rainbow to brighten up my stamped image. Repeating details like the stamp images and colors kept the design feeling simple.

I hope you like my happy rainbow, and that you have no reason to find out what your day, week or year will be like without coffee!

Using up your scraps with a CUPPA LOVE

Good morning crafty friends! Amy here with my last post for Scrap N’ Stamp. It’s been a pleasure creating with these fun products and alongside some AMAZING ladies!

Today I have a little fun tutorial to use up your scraps along with Spellbinder’s CUPPA LOVE die set.

Here’s the fun and BRIGHT card I made using up a few pieces of scrap along with some adhesive.

I started by cutting 1/4′”strips out of my collection of scrap cardstock pieces. I then applied Be Creative Adhesive sheet to the back of a piece of copy paper cut to 4.25″x 5.5″. I  then peeled of the release paper and started lining up my strips…really quick and easy! ;o) I started with the colors of the rainbow but lost a bit  of the ROY G BIV order when I cut it down for my panel. BUT I still think it’s fun and pretty! lol

I applied Candied Apple Distress Oxide to Bristol Smooth paper,  straight from the pad, no blending tool and used that to die cut the cup from CUPPA LOVE. I  then used Vintage Photo Distress Oxide applied to Bristol Smooth to die cut the Coffee portion from the die set  as well. I adhered it all together and added some leaves and a little heart from the same set to complete my mug. Some little white gel pen highlights and some Nuvo Crystal Glaze applied to the coffee and heart finished it off…doesn’t it look good enough to drink???

A sentiment from Art Impressions Latte Love Set stamped with Black Onyx Versafine Ink die cut with MFT-  Fishtails completed my sentiment. I adhered the panel to black cardstock and applied it to my base card with fun foam. A natural hemp ribbon finished off my card.

So  there we have it, a fun and relatively easy way to use up some scraps to get a BRIGHT background for your cards.
