Tuesday with Tara {take 154}

I’ve got something different to share this week… a little pinterest inspired home decor piece I painted up using my Dina Wakley Media paints & finished off with some Tim Holtz foam stamps.  My cat, Abbey, was a bit annoyed when I tried to photograph it on the surface she had chosen to nap on…

I wanted to do my sentiment with the lower case type set, but I don’t own it (yet- not a problem you have if you buy it from the store today!) but I got my hands on this script one.  They were kinda neat- a foam stamp on a cling backing, which meant they were easy to use on an acrylic block.    I did kinda forget they were foam though, and pressed a little harder than I should have.  Lesson learned… I highlighted my text with some Nuvo Glitter drops to brighten it up and add a bit of dimension.

I also added a bit of the gold paste I’ve been addicted to lately…

It kinda feels like the beach a bit!  I chose to mix white & elephant paint together for the bottom panel to give a slight sandy feel… each panel is actually a combination of two or more shades to keep it from feeling too flat.  As you can see in this last shot, the panels are different heights which adds fun texture too.

Hope you like my quick little art piece!   I love these paints and pull them out constantly for a variety of projects 🙂

Have a fantastic week!  And don’t forget to save the date for Friday afternoon when we have our first Blog Hop with the new official Design Team!  Woohoo!

Inky (painty) hugs,

Tara

Happy Tuesday!

Today I’m sharing a quick, masculine art journal page in my Dina Wakley mixed media journal.  I used one of the kraft pages, doodled with her scribble sticks and blended paint with my doodles for a fun background!  I added some stenciled designs in a deep blue and doodles with a white pen and added some color to a photo card for a fun image.  A layer of burlap adds some texture (this is from another page I cut a window out of) and gives a bit more contrast to my image.

Doodling on a page was a challenge… sometimes we rely too heavily on our tools and supplies like stamps and stencils.  Dina is a great inspiration with her products and her classes to get out of my comfort zone and try something new.  My art journal is a great place for that, because it’s just a spot for me (and then I step out of my comfort zone again and share it with you!) to experiment and try new things and hopefully discover some techniques and mediums I really like!

Have a great week!

Inky hugs,

Tara

Happy Tuesday!

Today I’m sharing a simple card with a mixed media twist… a fun textured background!  I started with a simple little tag that had been inked up with Distress Ink on a previous play day… added one of the amazing new butterflies by MFT, stamped with Distress Ink and die cut from watercolor paper.  I added a simple sentiment by Mama Elephant (couldn’t find this one from the ‘everyday greetings’ set in the online store, but there’s a bunch of other good ones!) and some ribbon from my stash to finish it off.

I wanted a simple background, but I didn’t want a boring background, so I decided to collage a black and white piece and add some mixed media.  I trimmed a base of white cardstock and layered over it with torn book paper, tissue wrap (I used pre-printed, but I love that you can stamp plain with your own images for more variety!) & washi tape.  I then selected a stencil and spread plain white texture paste through it in a random pattern.  I love how it dries with a bit of transparency to see the design underneath it.  To tie everything together, I splattered a bit of metallic paint on my black & white background.

Another look at all the yumminess…
I hope today’s card brings a smile!  It features my ‘happy’ colors, which I am always drawn to!  If you are in one of the many areas of BC that are affected by forest fires and evacuations right now, you are on my mind!  Many of my family and friends are in the middle of this crisis and my heart is hurting for you… praying you are all safe with your loved ones!

Inky hugs,

Tara
