Dreaming of a Summer Scene…

Crazy but true, it’s the last day of January! That means it’s the last day to participate in this month’s Random Acts of Cardness Challenge – and I’m here today with a little inspiration for the prompt, SCENE. Where I am it’s still the depths of winter, but I can still dream, right?

Sand, surf, blue skies, a tropical drink – I like this dream scene! ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  It’s made using On the Beach stamps and dies from Lawn Fawn. All the elements are coloured with Copic markers. Did you know that Scrap ‘n Stamp now carries MFT cardstock? I used Caribbean Sea for… the sea. The sky is blended with tumbled glass distress oxide ink, and the sand with antique linen stippled with a little gathered twigs.

My favourite part of this stamp set? The tiki drink is as big as the bear’s head. ๐Ÿ˜€

I Made a Box…

It’s my first January post here on the Scrap ‘n Stamp blog, so happy 2022! I’ve actually been taking a bit of a crafting break to deal with some other *stuff*, and to get back into the groove, I spent some time making something totally different from the usual – I made a Graphic 45 chipboard box!

Scrap ‘n Stamp offers a number of different Graphic 45 kits, and I picked the Ocean Blue Kit, which has everything you need to make this box, as well as a mini-album and decorative matchboxes, with lots of paper and ephemera left over.ย  The full-colour instructions are detailed and easy to follow. Of course, I had to add my own spin, and switched the papers around so that I could have a blue box with a tan interior, rather than the reverse. I did this both because I prefer blues to neutrals, and so it would fit with the January Random Acts of Cardness prompt, BLUE! ๐Ÿ˜‰

To start, I covered the bottom inside pieces of the box with my chosen papers and adhered them together. I think adhesive choice is important with a project like this, so for paper-to-chipboard I used Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive, and for chipboard-to-chipboard, I used Ranger multi medium matte for extra strength. Here’s the box base:

The box lid comes next, with paper on both sides before adhering it to the bottom using a paper hinge. The lid flap is also attached with a hinge. Extra long strips of paper are adhered around the the box to strengthen the sides. At this point, my box was essentially done apart from a few embellishments:

In keeping with my usual style, I kept my embellishments clean and simple, with a few die cuts on the lid, and a reinforced sticker element as a lid clasp. Here’s another view of my finished project, along with a close up of the lid:

This project was quite the departure for me, but it turned out to be a lot of fun to make! Next up, I plan to make some cards using the kit elements to add to my box. I’m thinking one of the matchboxes would be a perfect addition for holding postage stamps! Thanks for checking in today, and I hope you’re playing along with the Random Acts of Cardness Challenge for your chance to win a $50 gift code to the Scrap ‘n Stamp store!

Time to Celebrate

Welcome back to real life after a holiday weekend! Today’s Random Acts of Cardness prompt on the Facebook Scrap ‘n Stamp challenge page is CELEBRATE! It would be easy to use this prompt for a Christmas card, but I’m ready to ease back into regular cardmaking. ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  Here’s what I came up with:

When a card is this clean and simple, it’s nice to add a bit of a WOW factor, and for me, it was cutting the two My Favorite Things martini glasses out of sparkly blue Memory Box glitter cardstock. It’s one of teammate Jess’s “picks”, and it’s a good one! Gorgeous shimmer, and die cuts beautifully. I also cut a few extra martini glasses out of some scraps of blue cardstock – the narrow stems of the glasses are hard to pop up with foam tape, I find.ย  For a little background interest, I added a light grey stencil of brickwork… perhaps this celebration is taking place in a trendy bar? ๐Ÿ˜€ย  The sentiments come from two different MFT stamp sets, Balloon Bundle and A Toast to You. To finish, I layered everything on a grey card base to pick up on the stencilling.

Just a reminder, if you’re doing some after-Christmas shopping, you can use the code 10Lindsey for 10% off your order! Have a great week.
