Tuesday with Tara {take 240} Type Talk x2

Happy Tuesday!  It’s been a wild ride this week… so much has changed in our world and I know for many of us it means a LOT more time at home.  If you are one who is home, I hope you have been able to find some time to be creative.  We would LOVE to see what you’re making and especially if it includes stencils, we’d love to see it shared in our facebook group!  I am one who works in an “essential” industry (pharmacy) and have been too exhausted to even put much thought into creating… good thing I had these cards finished and ready to share with you today!

My cards feature the fabulous Type Talk stamp set by Concord & 9th.  For my first card, I’ve used the floral image that is part of the set, colored loosely with watercolor pencils in the neutral shades of brown and teal.  The typewriter was stamped onto some paper which I inked up with Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide Spray– the mix of colors in this single spray was the inspiration for the entire card.

As you can see, the card itself is pretty simple.  I fussy cut the two stamped elements and adhered them to a stitched edge die cut panel.  I embossed my sentiment in ivory and added some stamped dots in a row above and below it.  The fun details that finished it off were some white Nuvo Crystal Drops on my typewriter keys and a bit of thin twine.  As you can see there is a touch of glitter on the flowers as well.

Here’s a more masculine version of the card (very similar, but a smaller scale than this one I shared previously).  The typewriter was stamped on the same piece of inked cardstock as my other card.

I also used the fun interactive element that I featured on my previous card.  You can see it here, as well as a closer look at the typewrite keys.  I love how the Nuvo drops picked up some of the color from the paper, making the keys more ivory than a stark white.

Wishing you creative days ahead… whether you are in full quarantine or doing some sensible ‘social distancing’ be sure to spend some time MAKING something and enjoying the way the arts are coming together during these difficult days!

Inky hugs (from afar),

Tara

Rainbow Letters with Concord & 9th!

Good morning everyone! Laurie back to share a fun, happy card with you! I have been a bit obsessed with rainbows lately which are VERY trendy in the cardmaking world!

Now, I have quite a few alphabet die sets including tall and skinny sizes. But when Concord & 9th came out with the Tall Type Alphabet, I knew I just had to have it! And the co-ordinating stamp set they’ve created is just genius!

I started by lining up and die cutting the phrase “hey you” in the centre of and A2 sized, white card panel. I then lined up one of the Fancy Scalloped Rectangle Dies from Lawn Fawn. After die cutting the panel, I noticed there was room for more! So, I added one of the Just Stitching Double Rectangles. Unfortunately, I was a little “off” but I carried on!

I used the fun Playful Patterns Stamp Set to add these fun lines to the positive die cut letters. I, of course, used a rainbow of colours. Before adhering the die cut panel, I scored the front of the cardbase every 1/2 inch to give some texture…I’m slightly addicted to doing this as well!

The foam adhesive I used was quite thick (found it in my desk, I’ve had it forever) but I love the dimension it gave. I used liquid glue to adhere the stamped letter die cuts back into their respective spots.

Instead of leaving it there, I added a banner and flower to the corners. These both come from the Globe Greetings Die Set, also from C&9th.

All in all, I’m pretty happy with the way this turned out but I think if I made this again, I would leave the flower off!

Thanks so much for popping’ in today.! Have a great weekend and I’ll be back soon!

Laurie

Tuesday with Tara {take 233} Happy Hello

Happy Tuesday and happy New Year’s Eve! Today I’m sharing a project I’ve had set aside on the back-burner for a while. I created this in the midst of my fall & Christmas projects, when I still kinda had some summer inspiration hanging on. The cards are simple, and so is the technique, but I’ve got a bit of a step by step tutorial for you to finish of the year right 🙂

I used a mix of products here, but I’m focusing on the paper I made using some of the leaves & background images from the Toucan Paradise set by Concord & 9th.

I love the tropical leaves and other design elements on this set- it’s so much fun! Here’s where I wanted to share how I created the background, which is my own variation of the Joseph’s Coat Technique. Unfortunately, I’m having technical difficulties and getting this lovely little question mark instead of an image.

Once you’ve checked out my cards, please pop over to my personal blog for the quick tutorial on this technique 🙂

Here’s a look at the second card I made with my background paper!

I just love the colorful leaves against the muted background, hope you do too!

Inky hugs,

Tara
