November Blog Hop & Challenge!

Welcome to our November Blog Hop, where we are introducing our November Challenge (you can play along with us on Facebook!) and hopefully bringing you inspiration to create a Movember Madness card which features mustaches or a masculine theme!  We are featuring a fun little Retro Masculine die set by Impression Obsession, but you can interpret the challenge however you wish…

We will be giving away prizes, of course- 3 of you who leave comments along the way of the hop will win one of the Retro Masculine die sets, and one lucky challenge participant will get a $50 gift certificate to spend in the SNS online store!   Scrap ‘N Stamp will also be be donating 10% of net sales on hop Day to the Movember foundation in support of men’s health issues.

For my card, I’ve paired  the Retro Masculine Dies with mugs from the ‘Thanks a Latte’ set by Lawn Fawn.  I die cut the entire set and played around with placement of them to add some fun character to the mugs, which I colored with Copic Markers.  I pulled a 6×6 pad out from my stash (perhaps you recognize this old fave, Mamarazzi, by BoBunny.  It’s probably 7 years old!) and chose papers using inspiration from a recent card sketch I found online.  I’ve switched things up a bit, but you can probably still see the design 😉  One of Tim’s SNARKY small talk sentiment stickers was a perfect fit to help me with my design… After a bit of playing around, I added some ribbon and moved a third mug to the inside of the card, then added a fun border of die cut shapes at the bottom of the card.

I love the personality the die cuts add to my mugs!  As you can see, I added some Glossy Accents to the coffee.  yum.

Inside the card, I added a strip of patterned paper & the smaller mug, which is from the mini Pumpkin Spice stamp set, also by Lawn Fawn.  I can see the three mugs being used together to represent a family (with a mustache on just one, of course!).  The sentiment is from the Thanks a Latte set.  I love that there are so many options to mix & match between the two sets!

I had fun creating this card and making a card that is whimsical, snarky & masculine!  The girls have put together some fun projects, I think you’re going to enjoy this hop!  And remember, we’d love to see what you are making too!  Please join us on the Challenge Page on Facebook and play along!  Now that you’ve seen my card, it’s time to continue on and get hopping…

Remember the Now!

A clean and simple tag using Tim Holtz Theories Stamp Set.

I’m a huge Tim Holtz fan and I just love this new set of his. It can be so versatile- for so many occasions. I don’t know about you, but I struggle with masculine cards/tags and this set makes it easier for me! ;o)

I love brown and blue for a color combo  and added a little gold for some “pizazz”.

I added some background stamping in Memento Toffee Crunch using Tim Holtz Reflections- Numerical stamp.  and then placed the image on my tag using the Tim Holtz Stamping Platform and stamped the image with Memento Nautical Blue ink.  I find the platform makes for a crisp image every time. A definite must need in your crafty aresenal!

I then added my sentiment by embossing a Sentiment from Tim Holtz- Handwritten Thoughts with Stampendous Detail Gold Embossing Powder. I added some Gold Paint Splatters, button and some Washi Tape to finish off the tag.

Voila! A quick and easy,CAS Masculine Tag! You can check out my blog post here for more pictures.

Don’t forget there is still time to join in the “Christmas in July” Blog hop– so hop on over! ;o)

Happy Craftin’!

Tuesday with Tara {take 102}

Happy Tuesday!

Father’s Day is coming up so I thought I’d share a fun masculine card idea with you featuring the popular paper dolls by Tim Holtz, Distress Oxide and a bunch of kraft colored goodness 🙂

I started by working with a variety of Distress Oxide Inks on a #8 manila tag.  I used what I like to call the ‘dip & drip’ technique- rubbing a few colors onto my Ranger Craft Sheet, spritzing with water and dipping the tag into it.  I let it drip a bit, then dried with a heat tool and repeated the process.  The Oxide inks layer beautifully, giving a really funky effect.  I finished off the tag with some brown ink around the edges.  I also stamped a vintage button border in the same brown along the left side and added a few rings of white paint (using a lid as my tool).  The card background is also Distress Oxide, a simply stamped a small dot background onto the kraft card base and a few of those paint rings as well.

I’ve been looking for things to seat the sitting dolls on, and this coffee cup seemed like a fun ‘larger than life’ option- especially for my coffee loving Dad!

I always like to add texture, and this mustache ribbon from my stash, the burlap coffee sleeve and the decorative brads helped to complete this card.  It can be a challenge for a lot of us making masculine cards that aren’t boring, but details like this make it easy!

I hope you got a bit of inspiration for some masculine creations this week!

Inky hugs,

Tara
