HAVING FUN WITH ZIGS

Hi Everyone!
It’s Susan and I’m playing with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers today for the Random Acts of Cardness Challenge. I have two cards to share with you. the first one literally took just minutes to make.
I started with 3 different blue markers. I scribbled them onto a piece of Ranger watercolor card stock (first pic below) then sprayed it with some water (second pic). Next I used my heat tool to dry it. I continued with three purple markers, sprayed on some water then dried it with my heat tool. Next I scribbled a dark blue marker at the top, spritz it with more water then used a brush to blend it over the whole panel to darken it up.

To finish the card I stamped the Picket Fence  Capture Life in Color stamp with Versafine Nocturne ink. Because watercolor paper isn’t smooth I used my MISTI and stamped the image 3 or 4 times to get good coverage. I die cut the panel with the second large die in Lawn Fawns Stitched Rectangle Die set and added it to the card base with craft foam. I used a white Posca Paint Pen to add a few highlights.
The next card took a little longer to make. I stamped the three gnomes from Spellbinders Holiday Gnomes Stamp Set with Versafine Nocturne ink. I used my MISTI, stamped it a few times to get a solid image. I left the stamp in the MISTI so I could stamp it again after I finished coloring.  This next picture shows how I did the coloring. I chose two colors for the hat, added the darker one into the bottom corners and part way up and then a lighter color. You can see the two colors on the right side of the hat. Next I took a wet paint brush and pulled the two colors together and blended them further up the hat. I hope that makes sense.
I continued coloring all three gnomes using the technique I just described.
Once I colored in all the gnomes I used a dark and light gray to add some shading to the bottom. I used a light blue to add a little color to the background ( I scribbled the marker onto a block, spritzed it with some water and blended it onto the panel with a paint brush. I added a light gray around lower portion of the gnomes the same way I added the light blue.
Happy Stampin’
and thanks so much for visiting!
Stay safe everyone!!
Susan

One Layer Cards Two Ways

Hi Friends!

Todays Random Acts of Cardness prompt is one layer.

I’m sharing two one layer cards but they are very different. Let me know in the comments if you make one layer cards and what if you prefer to put lots of detail on it or keep it really clean and simple.

The first card I’m sharing with you today has lots of detail. The trick for this is masking.

Masking is not something I do a lot of. Sometimes you really have to plan it out. Since my images were just piled on top of one another there isn’t a lot of planning involved. If I wanted images in front of one another then you start with the image you want in the foreground, mask it, then stamp the next one and so on. I more times than not mess up when I do that so I chose to make a slimline card and have all the images standing on top of one another.

I stamped the elephant, then masked him, stamped the rhino, masked him and so on. Then I blended on some grass. Next I used a cloud stencil and blended on the clouds. I removed all the masks then set about coloring the images with my Prismacolor pencils. I used the pencils to add some shading under the elephant and along where the grass meets the sky.

This isn’t a hard technique but it can take some time to plan out and do it…

…and as much as I like how the first card turned out this next one is my favorite. I love how the image is off the edge of the paper. It’s like she’s peeking in to say hi.

I stamped the image, colored her in with my Prismacolor pencils, then stamped the sentiment.

That’s it.

Leave me a comment and let me know if you make one layer cards and if you have a favorite way to make them.

Happy Stampin’

Birthday Wishing Mice and a Cute Rabbit

Hi Everyone! Susan here with day 29 of the Random Acts of Cardness Challenges. My challenge this time is Mice. I love the Birthday Wishing stamp set from Colorado Craft Company – those critters are so cute and knew I would be using it for this challenge. I paired it with the Playful Happy Birthday Die from Poppystamps and the It’s a Mice Time To Celebrate Stamp Set from MFT.

I started out with the idea of using the Happy Birthday die on a slim line card. First I blended some distress oxide inks onto a piece of white cardstock in a rainbow order. After I die cut it I thought I could use the leftover piece on a card and decided to make two A2 size cards instead of one slimline card.

My first card doesn’t have a mouse on it – oops. I forgot to leave room to stamp a little mouse looking up at the rabbit.

I decided to use the happy on this card paired with the white embossed birthday on black card stock. The birthday is part of a sentiment from the It’s a Mice Time To Celebrate Stamp Set. I stamped the rabbit onto the piece of cardstock that I did the ink blending on (first cutting off the portion that I die cut the happy birthday from) then fit it to the right side of my card base. I added a thin strip of black card stock then added the sentiments to call this card done.

My second card definitely has mice. I started by adhering the birthday word die to the panel, stamping the little happy above it then stamped the mice.

The balloons are the same one you see in the first card. I just stamped the balloon portion 3x then drew on the strings with a fine tip black marker. I used a blender pen and the same distress oxide inks I used on the first card to color in the balloons & the present. I used Prismacolor pencils for the mice.

Both these cards put a smile on my face. They are bright, fun and still very clean and simple.

Time for you to join the fun!

If you want to play along with the Random Acts of Cardness challenges please share your projects (it doesn’t have to be a card) on the Scrap’n Stamp Facebook Challenge Page using the hashtag #SNSCHALLENGE. Be sure to say which day your project is for. There’s a different challenge every day of the month and you can enter as many times as you like.
