Slimline Card Using MFT Stamps!

Happy Saturday AND Happy First Day of Summer! I’m not sure where you live but if you are in Manitoba, it definitely has not felt very summery. Or Springy, for that matter! It is currently 7C here right now (it’s about 10:30pm) and we’ve had the heat on in the house. In fact, we haven’t yet turned it off for the season :(. I really hope for some improvement soon!

Anyway, today’s card is a slimline card which measures 8.5 X 3.5 inches and fits nicely into a regular business envelope. It’s also going to be a graduation card for my niece who is graduating tomorrow! They’ve put together a very interesting “drive-in” grad with social distancing rules in place. I’m interested yet can’t help but feel sad at the same time. These kids have been dealt a crappy hand this year. But they will no doubt make the best of things!

What’s really awesome about making this card size is that after you trim your 8.5X 11 piece of cardstock to make this card, you’re left with a piece that makes a great layer. I trimmed half an inch off this strip. This left a nice space to add some patterned paper. This particular paper came from my stash. I’ve had it for years and think I got it at Micheals.

On the layer, I used the Cloud Stencil from MFT along with a rainbow of Gina K inks! I worked my way down the panel which resulted in this super pretty background. The butterflies come from the newer stamp set, Brilliant Butterflies, also from MFT.  I used this set in a different way. It is a stamp layering set but I only used the detail layer along with silver embossing powder. I did use the co-ordinating dies but just trimmed the excess off.

Not using the solid layering stamps resulted in a much “lighter” butterfly. I didn’t want them to overtake or compete with the background. I did add a little bit of colour to the centres of each butterfly.  I foam mounted each butterfly. The sentiment comes from the a set called Essential Sentiments (MFT) which unfortunately isn’t available in the shop…so sorry!

I white embossed the sentiments onto strips of black cardstock and used foam adhesive to adhere them. I added a spattering of sequins to finish the card off!

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you’re first day of summer is spectacular!

See you soon!

Laurie

My Favorite Things Galore!

They’re not called ‘My Favorite Things’ for nothing, I guess! This whole card is My Favorite Things galore – the stamp set, the dies and stencils! If they had ink pads, I’d probably have used them, too. Hi – it’s Deb here from the Design Team, to share a new project with you today. I’ve had this Jumping Giraffe stamp set for a while, but this is the first time I’ve  used it. Get ready for some serious cute!

JUMPING GIRAFFE

I had fun with the layout I used for a card earlier this week – you can see it HERE – so I used it again. By changing up the background and colours, I achieved a new, fun look.

My Favorite Things Galore!

I told you it was cute! Adding the stenciled confetti background really amps up the fun factor of this card.

CARD DETAILS

On a white cardstock panel, lay the first of the MFT Confetti Stencil on top. I hold it in place with Purple Tape; it’s the quickest & easiest to do. Apply Gina K. Peach Bellini ink with a blending tool. Now, remove this stencil, and lay the 2nd confetti stencil on top of the same panel. You can see that the confetti dots are offset from each other. Now, apply Broken China Distress Oxide ink through the stencil. Remove this stencil, and wipe both clean with a damp cloth or paper towel. I love how easy the clean up is!

On a separate piece of white cardstock, stamp the Jumping Giraffe image with Nocturne ink. Cover with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Colour the giraffe with your choice of alcohol markers or pencils. Next, use the MFT Wonky Stitched Rectangles dies and die cut the image. Add Broken China ink around the edges using a blending tool.  Finally, stamp the sentiment, also from the Jumping Giraffe stamp set, in Nocturne ink, and heat set with clear embossing powder.  Add a few more of the coloured confetti dots near the edges of the sentiment strip, for more fun.

PULL IT ALL TOGETHER

Now you’re ready to layer it all together with glue, fun foam or foam tape.

My Favorite Things Galore!

Did you catch the play on words in the sentiment? I don’t know about you, but a giraffe on a Pogo stick is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen!

I hope you’ve been inspired to have fun and get creative – even if your next card isn’t My Favorite Things Galore, like this one! Mixing and matching brands is fun to do; this one just happened to work out to be some of ‘my favorite things’, all on one card.  Shopping for these products is easy; I’ve included links below, for your convenience. Thanks for spending some time with me today – have a ‘hoppy’ day!

Kia here with this sweet image by Picket Fence Studios. For this card I decided that I would base the image on bees that are different from what we see here in Canada. I found this beautiful bee to use for my inspiration. I just used the blues in the body, and the brown wings, as I knew I would have a lot of colour up top.

I water coloured using Zig Clean Color Brushes in several colours. I have done a video which I will post sometime tomorrow, which has a list of the colours that I used. My thought process is that the bees pollinate flowers as they go about their business, so I did the head in bright colours which represent the flowers. They spread sunshine wherever they go, hence the background I did using my cloud stencil and Distress Oxides in Squeezed Lemonade and Spiced Marmalade.

I die cut the cloud panel with Penny Black’s Stitched Stackers and attached it to my card base. I then die cut two different size circles using MFT Stitched Circles using 36lb Vellum. On the smaller circle I stamped the sentiment using Ranger Archival Manganese Blue, then heat set with clear embossing powder, attaching the vellum using Vellum tape. I attached my “Bee” on foam squares, then applied Clear Wink of Stella to all the flower colours, along with the bees wings, and finished with a few gumdrops.

Here is the video for this card.
