Tuesday with Tara {take 321} Looks like snow y’all

Happy Tuesday!  Today the challenge word that inspired my card was STENCILS and I was excited as I just got some new ones from Vicki Boutin recently.  I’m such a fan of her colorful work and this Wild Soul Stencil from the Storyteller collection is the first product I finally got my hands on… I didn’t even notice it was a set of three! (I also got the 6×8 paper pad for some quick creations!).  I follow Vicki on Facebook and she often does tutorials, so I went looking for a fun stencil technique.  You can find the video I used as my inspiration on October 1- it’s a fun one.

So I started with the technique she shared using Distress Ink, a stencil and a bunch of water on a smaller scale since I was working with cards instead of scrapbook page.  Once it was ready, I trimmed it down to size and then as I was contemplating my card (and the SNOW my hometown in BC got yesterday!) I added a layer of snowflakes using this great stencil by Paper Rose.

Once I decided I wanted to embrace the snow theme I went digging through my supplies.  I recently got this big y’all die from Picket Fence (which I don’t imaging SNS will have anytime soon, but since I’m living in the south now it’s something I had to have it) so I found a sentiment to pair it with.  These sweet stitched snowflakes are from Memory Box, which I thought was a nice touch with the stitched edge on my background.  A few elements cut from book print adds a really fun touch, and I inked them in the same pale green (shabby shutters) Distress Oxide ink that I used with the stencil over the background.

This background has almost a tie-die feel to it… which I’m not sure is something I’ve ever seen with snowflakes before, but I kinda like it!  Hope you do too 🙂

Inky hugs,

Tara

Christmas Critters

Hello all! Kia back with you today for Day 3 of the Random Act of Cardness challenges, and today is Critters.

I wanted to play with this new to me stamp set from Avery Elle today. It is such a cute set.

I decided I would use the Picket Fence Stencil Field of Snowy Trees as well. For the trees I used Paper Glaze in the Green, applying a thick layer to my card base. I then set it aside to dry.

In my mini Misti I stamped the images from the set using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black. I then coloured using Copic markers and fussy cut when finished. I added a blue snow line and shadow to the card base using Copic markers in B00.

Once the base card as dry I stamped the sentiment using Ranger Archival Ink in Carnation Red. I then added the images to the card using foam squares. I also stamped the snowfall using VersaFine Clair ink in Blue Belle, and coloured with Copic Boo. I then added Nuvo Crystal Drops in Blue Babe to the snowfall. It is snowing very heavy as you can see.

This certainly was a fun card to make for today, and I hope you enjoy it as well.

LAYERED STENCILS? YES OR NO?

It’s a HUGE YES from me!

Hi Everyone! It’s Susan here today with the Random Acts of Cardness word prompt of Layering Stencils. I’d never used layering stencils before which is why I chose the prompt. I wanted to challenge myself to use a new technique and be completely honest with you all about how I feel about them. I wanted to know if they were worth the money.

Yes they are!!!

I’m sharing three cards with you today and a video. All the details on how the stencils work and some tips on using them are over on the video. (I can’t seem to share it here).

Click HERE to watch it on YouTube.

I used the Pinkfresh Miss Your Smile Layering Stencils. They are a higher price point than regular stencils but it comes with 4 stencils. I admit I was unsure about them at first because of the price. I was wondering if I would use them very much and the answer is Yes, I’ll use them a LOT.  I made 5 cards on day 1 of playing with them and have ideas for more. I’ll be sharing the other 2 I made over on my blog soon.

Happy Stampin’
and thanks so much for visiting!
Stay safe everyone!!
Susan
