Taylored Expressions

For a Friend

There’s nothing to pick up your spirits like a card from a friend, in your mailbox! A bright & cheery one is even better. I think I combined these elements in these pretty cards that are perfect for a friend, at any time. And of course, I worked it in for the Scrap ‘N Stamp word prompt of ‘friends’!

DOODLE FLOWERS BACKGROUND

Everyone in the Scrap ‘N Stamp design team recently received a box of goodies to play with! I have to admit that I didn’t wait – I dove right in, so you’ll be getting a sneak peek today of some new  products that haven’t hit the shelves yet! I was actually so excited that I created 2 cards, using the same products. Just because I could! I wanted to see the pretty new embossing powders on a white, and a dark background. Here they are!

For a Friend

I had started with the white background, but them immediately how how gorgeous the colours would stand out on a darker background! They’re still pretty on the white, but really pop on the blue!

CARD DETAILS

Start with your panel of cardstock – light or dark. I found it best to set up the cardstock and Taylored Expressions Doodle Flowers Background stamp in my stamp platform. Next, cover the stamp with Versamark ink, and press firmly on the cardstock. Repeat if necessary. Now the fun happens! Seriously, I felt like a kid in kindergarten again, I had such fun. I used the coming soon Embossing Powder set by Hampton Arts – you’re going to love! There’s a total of 16 different embossing powders, each colour has 2 – one matte, one glitter. To start, I sprinkled the matte green around the edges of the stamping, basically to colour the stems green. Remove any excess powder, and then add  your next colour. For the flowers, I chose to use the glitter version of the colours – pink, violet, yellow and blue.  I didn’t bother to shake off the excess of each colour as I went along – this meant that the colours mixed beautifully ! When you do shake off the excess powder, you can keep the resulting rainbow, and use it on another project. Here’s a close up look at the pretty results.

For a Friend

This background stamp leaves a wonderful oval in the middle, perfect for a sentiment. Stamp your chosen sentiment onto vellum with Versamark ink, and then cover it with gold embossing powder. Use a heat tool to set, and then die cut with an oval die. For my sentiment, I used one of my new stamps – again by Hampton Arts, but I’m not sure of the name! It’s a wonderful sentiment set, though.

Attach your embossed card front to a bright card base, and then attach your sentiment oval. Add a few embellishments to the card front for some sparkle, and to hide your glue behind the vellum. Again – I used new self adhesive gems from Hampton Arts, and sequins from  Studio Katia.

SNEAK PEEK!

In the photo below, you can see the vials that the new embossing powders come in, plus the new gems.

FUN WITH EMBOSSING

Hi Everyone! It’s Susan here (a little late in the day but I made it) with a couple of cards featuring the Random Act of Cardness prompt for today. The prompt is EMBOSSING and I made two cards that are full of embossing.

When I started this card I had zero idea on what I would do. I video taped the process but don’t worry, I won’t make you sit through all my humming and hawing about what to do.

I have a filming tip for you. I film with my iphone and I learned that if my battery is low it will switch to recording in slow motion. Part way through the filming it did that and I ended up with 484 minutes of film. So, my tip is make sure your phone is fully charged when you start filming.

Click HERE to see the video.

These were extremely fun to make. I forgot how much I like doing cards like this – a little mixed media and grungy looking.

This would be fun to do with bright colors too.

I have a bonus card for you.  I showed the embossed Sage background piece in the video but not how I put it together.   I used Walnut Stain Distress Ink and Iced Spruce Oxide ink to add some depth to the panel then cut it down with the 2nd largest die in the Lawn Fawn Large Stitched 4 Bar Rectangle Die Set. I added it to a card base with craft foam. This really helps to flatten the panel. I embossed a simple embossed sentiment using the Pinkfresh Miss Your Smile Stamp Set and a few of the embossed hearts I cut out in the video.

This one was much simpler so it came together much quicker.

Happy Stampin’
and thanks so much for visiting!
Stay safe everyone!!

Random Act of Cardness Day 12 – Stencils

Hi Everyone!

I hope you’re having a fun weekend. It’s Susan and I’m here to share some fun using the prompt from today’s Random Act of Cardness, That prompt is Stencils. I chose to use three different stencils – one was slimline and two were 6×6 – and make three slimline cards with them. I have video showing the process with each stencil but not how I made the cards. The video would’ve been too long if I did that too.

To watch the video please click HERE.

Below are the cards I made. If you have any questions about any of them, please leave me a comment here or on my YouTube channel and I will get back to you asap.

The first card uses the Wave to Me Stencil from Heffy Doodle. I paired it with the Polar Bear Pals from MFT,  the Full of Joy Stamp Set from C&9th, and the cloud stencil from MFT. The snowflakes are from the Avery Elle Snow Fun Stamp Set. I colored the images in with Tombow markers.

The second card uses the Heffy Doodle Broad Strokes Stencil and the circles I cut from the card above. The sentiment  and the snowflakes are from the Beautiful Baubles Add Ons from Taylored Expressions. I used some markers to draw the rest of the snowman and his hat.

The last card uses the Festive Friends from C&9th and Avery Elle’s Snow Fun for the snowflakes. I colored the image in with the same Distress Oxides I used on the panel plus the Broken China Distress Oxide. The snow is just torn card stock.

Happy Stampin’
and thanks so much for visiting!
Stay Safe Everyone!!
