Tuesday with Tara {take 333} Coffee Obsessed

Happy Tuesday!  Did you check out our Inspiration Hop over the weekend?  It’s not too late to check it out again- it was full of so many great projects from the team!  I’m back with another card using the Coffee House stamps by Anita Jeram together with Storyteller paper pad by Vicki Boutin.   I picked a totally different color combo for this card and I also am feeling a little more back into the groove with my Copic Markers again. LOL. Good to know I haven’t totally wasted that investment!

I couldn’t decide between a grey mouse or a brown mouse, so I did one of each and I then I settled on matching this pretty teal paper from the paper pad for the Bodum Coffee Maker.  I rarely even use mine (mostly when we’re camping) but now I really want one in teal like this!   I’ve used the Copic Markers BG13, BG15 & BG18 for this and it’s a fave color combo of mine.  It makes me happy… like coffee 🙂

I finished this card off with a few Clear Drops by Studio Katia– adding a tiny bit of sparkle by using Honey Gold Nuvo Glitter Drops as my adhesive.  I always like a bit of texture too, so a bit of thin twine tied in a bow to match the adorable coffee maker was a fun touch as well!  You can’t really see it well, but I added subtle dimension to the sentiment banner by adding some foam adhesive only in the center so it is flat at both of the outer edges, giving a bit of softness & height to it.

I hope you like it and that your day is more blessed than stressed 🙂

Inky hugs,

Tara

Winter is Coming

Despite the title, this post isn’t about Game of Thrones (for those of you who are fans). But yes, winter is coming!  It’s hard to believe that we still have almost a month until the start of winter. You may have read or seen on the news the devastating rain & flooding that we’ve had here in B.C., which is were I am, and the Scrap ‘N Stamp store.  I’m very thankful that the area in which I live is relatively unaffected. But I’m very sad for those who have been displaced, lost their homes, and all of the animals (pets, livestock and wild) that have suffered. Wherever you live, I hope that you’re safe!

ACTS OF CARDNESS PROMPT

Over on the Scrap ‘N Stamp Facebook page HERE, you’ll find the daily word prompts for the Random Acts of Cardness.  The idea behind the challenge is that it will get everyone making cards daily, but not just making them. Sending them!! Yes – you’re supposed to be giving or mailing your daily creations! At this time of year, it’s not that difficult. For today’s prompt I chose the word ‘winter’, so that you can make this as one of your holiday or Christmas cards.

I pulled out one of my favourite sets from last year, by Colorado Craft Company. It features the whimsical art of Anita Jeram, in a stamp called Kittens & Mittens.

Winter is Coming

Aren’t those kittens adorable?! I can’t wait to get my hands on the latest release, coming soon to the Scrap ‘N Stamp store.

CARD DETAILS

Start with a panel of watercolour paper. Wet the paper with either a spritzer or water brush. Smoosh the Faded Jeans Distress Oxide onto your craft mat, and then pick it up & apply it with a water brush. I did a heavier application on the top for the sky, and then lightly on the bottom. Sort of a reflection of the sky onto the snow. Allow the panel to dry, or speed it up with a heat tool.

Next, stamp the Kittens & Mittens in Nocturne ink. Choose your colours; I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and a water brush to paint. The colours I chose are Light Gray, Carmine Red, Beige, Yellow, Brown, Blue and Blue Gray.  After colouring the kittens, add some shadows under their feet, using the Light Gray marker.  You can see on the blue hat that the area wasn’t quite dry – so I went with it, added more water, and made it a fuzzy hat!

Now, use the snowflake stamp with Versamark, and stamp it across the top. Cover it with white embossing powder, and heat set.  I felt like the snow wasn’t standing out as much as I wanted, so I added some splatters of watered down white gouache paint.  While this is drying, stamp the sentiment onto a piece of bright blue cardstock in Versamark, and again emboss with white embossing powder.  Attach the sentiment to the top of the card front, and then wrap some silver cording across the bottom.

Attach the card front to your bright blue card base using foam tape. Finish off the card by adding a small Nuvo Cherry Heart.

Winter is Coming

Anyone who receives this card is guaranteed to smile!

Tuesday with Tara {take 326} Holly & Hugs

Happy Tuesday!

Today’s card started out very simple and grew into a vintage collage that I had so much fun putting together!  I knew I wanted to work with ribbon, so a wreath is a perfect way to display one.  This little one from Tim Holtz’s Wreath & Snowflake die set is really cute and I’d never even cut it out before!  I chose to layer together two wreaths, one from a (not quite big enough) piece of inked cardstock and the other is solid green.  I did the same with the berry dies and it gave me a nice variety to work with and pair with the crinkly ribbon bow.

Last time I used this set, it was for our ‘snow much fun’ blog hop (you can see my card on instagram or my blog) and I used the same die cut ‘hugs’ sentiment!  I’d cut it twice since I wasn’t sure which way I wanted my layers to go, so today’s card seemed like a perfect chance to use it.

Honestly, the rest of the card just kinda came together as I flipped through paper pads and stamps that were nearby on my messy workspace (seriously, has anyone got tips how to clean this mess up without getting distracted by all the pretty things?)…

The library card is from Vicky Boutin, the holly stamp is by Tim Holtz and the rest are old wooden stamps from Art Impressions & Hero Arts I just love to throw in the mix sometimes.  I had fun adding in some metallic stickers & a touch of Nuvo glitter dots as well!  That background paper is some OLD Tim Holtz Kraft resist gorgeousness with some Rustic Wilderness Distress Ink over it.  I added a bit of a Distress Ink/ Distress Marker combo to add color to the holly on the library card.

Thanks for stopping by!

Inky hugs,

Tara
