Shaving Cream Plus Inks

Hello crafty friends, Kia here with you today to share Day 17 of Scrap’n Stamps 30 Days of Challenges which is to use Shaving Cream. I have a video for you to watch here.

In the video Lydia describes what she does once the shaving cream is applied to the card. I do not do this, I leave the piece to dry as I like a crisp look, which takes awhile. I left these for 90 minutes to dry, and they were still damp. So be sure to use freezer paper to wrap the panel when die cut to protect your plates, and when applying glue to the back place the panel on a paper towel.

For the left card I used reinkers and alcohol inks for the middle and right cards.

As I wanted the backgrounds to be the star, I kept the cards clean and simple.

I used my Penny Black Elegant Stitched die for the card above and have added Nuvo Glitter Drops to the flower centres as well as a few falling from the sentiment.

Again, I used the Penny Black Elegant Stitched die on this card and the Hello die is cut 3 times, glued together, then I painted it with Nuvo Glitter Gloss.

For this card, on my card base I stencilled using my XO Mask stencil along with Opaque Matte Embossing Paste. I fussy cut the Heart and glued to the card base on the left side then used foam squares on the right side. The sentiment is stamped and glued to the card, and the you is glued on the left with a foam square supporting it on the right.

I have more of the backgrounds I made using this technique which can be found here.

I hope you will play along today, and upload your creations to our Challenge Page.

Picket Fence Studios Paper Glaze

Hi All!  It’s Nancy here today and I’ve been playing with some brand new items in the shop!  I was so excited whey Raya brought these wonderful Paper Glazes in to the shop!  I had seen a video when they were first released and I knew I had to have at least some of them.  Perhaps I got 7 of them…. oops.

The new Picket Fence Studio Paper Glazes come in some wonderfully amazing colours.  They are a thinner consistency that say the Nuvo Glimmer Paste but can be used in a lot of great ways.  I have heard of people using them on Gelli Plates and in lots of mixed media work.  You can paint with them or use them with a stencil.  The clean up is simple… just some water and a bit of a scrub.  They have a very slight shimmer to them… nothing over the top.

For my card today, I used a Gina K Stencil and some beautiful glitter cardstock and I stencilled on top of the glitter cardstock.  Such a wonderful tone on tone look with some sparkle thrown in!  Usually when I use my stencils and paste I use a plastic palette knife… but I got one of the Ranger Craft Squeegees and let me tell you how much I LOVE it!!  Because it’s rubbery it just seems to work with the Paper Glaze a little better.  I will be trying with my Nuvo Shimmer Paste as well.

Tuesday with Tara {take 241} A Simple Birthday

Happy Tuesday!

I realized a bit ago that I don’t have many birthday cards ready to go in my stash.  Then as I set to make this card for the stash, I realized that I don’t have many birthday stamps/dies!  Guess I’ll be looking to add a variety of birthday sentiments in the near future…  I found this sentiment in a ‘vintage’ sentiment set by Lawn Fawn.  It was part of one of their first releases in the early years, but classic sentiments never go out of style!

My goal for this simple birthday card was to make one that was kinda ‘gender neutral’ so I figured an outdoorsy theme was perfect!  I started with the Tree Ring background stamp by Concord & 9th, which I inked up with Distress Oxide.  I combined two shades of brown for a bit of subtle variation, then brushed the lighter color over the image for some shading.  I added a bit of life to the card with a die cut from the Garden Greens set by Tim Holtz.

I originally had a smaller sentiment in mind, but when I decided on this one I chose to add a flower and some bling to balance the design and add texture.  The ink that was left on the brush was just enough to add a bit of shading to the edges of my card!

Inky hugs from afar,

Tara
