Random Acts of Cardness

Joy Stocking

Kia here with you today for Day 6 of the Random Act of Cardness series here at Scrap’n Stamp. My prompt word is Sparkle, and there is a lot of Sparkle on this card, even though the photo does not pick it up easily.

Any stamp that has birds is a must have for me, well almost any! This stamp from Woodware caught my attention, and today is the perfect day to use it. To start I stamped using VersaFine Clair ink in Nocturne on Arches Cold Press watercolour card.

I wanted to watercolour and decided to use distress inks. The colours are Rustic Wilderness, Mowed Lawn, Twisted Citron, Barn Door, Candied Apple, Kitsch Flamingo, Speckled Egg and Brushed Corduroy.

I painted in layers to add deeper colour to areas of the stocking and added shading with the Twisted Citron. To bring in the red to the shading I pulled the colour from the stocking using water for a bit of unexpected. For the fur I used white Posca Pen, and dropped in hints of the Speckled Egg and Twisted Citron for interest.

Once I was finished with painting, I added pink dots using a gelly roll pen to the shaded area. For the stocking I added dots using my white gelly roll pen. I then added Nuvo Glitter Gloss to the white dots on the stocking, along with on the birds backs.

To finish my card I attached the piece to a Pinecone card base. I then die cut the Joy sentiment using red Glitter cardstock and glued it to the front of the card. I would normally stack my sentiment, but not with glitter card, and I am very low on red card, so I did not stack this time. Please forgive me!

I’m Dreaming of a White…

… martini? 😀  Today’s Random Act of Cardness prompt on the Scrap ‘n Stamp challenge page is WHITE! Here’s my take on a white card:

I don’t know about you, but some days when the holiday crunch is getting to me, this might just about sum up how I feel. 😀  As a festive card, I wanted lots of sparkle, so I started off with a Picket Fence martini stencil and some moonstone Nuvo glimmer paste. While that dried, I cut the My Favorite Things martini glass from some white glitter cardstock as well as two more from regular cardstock so I could layer them together. I also added a couple of layers to the MFT sassy sentiment, which I embossed with some sparkle embossing powder. I think we all know how tricky shine is to photograph, but this close-up at least gives a hint:

If you’re still working on holiday cards, I hope you’ll consider making a white card of your own, and adding it to the challenge page for a chance to win some Scrap ‘n Stamp spending money! Thanks for checking in today.

Have a FaBOOlous Day

Wow, it’s the last week of October already! That means it’s time to finish off any Halloween prep you might need to do, you know, like buying your favourite Halloween treats. 😉  And if you like to send Halloween cards, it’s time to get them in the mail! I’m here with possibly the least spooky card you can imagine, for today’s Random Acts of Cardness prompt, BOO.

These little ghosties from Lawn Fawn’s Booyah stamps and dies are so sweet! I stamped a few, mixing up the shapes and faces, then picked two that seemed to get along well together for the “O”s in my BOO. I added a bow tie to one, and a sparkly flower to the other. And let me tell you about my background! I was using distress oxides for a different card background, and had been brushing the excess off on the back of a Scrap ‘n Stamp postcard from an order. As I was cleaning up, I realized I had the start of a spooky sky! I used mermaid lagoon, faded jeans and wilted violet for the background. My large “B” is from Concord & 9th’s Tall Type Alphabet. The secondary banner sentiment is from another fun Lawn Fawn set, Tiny Halloween. I tried different ways of mounting my panel onto the card base – directly onto a white card base, a black mat on a white base, but decided I liked this one, directly onto a black card base, best.

If I knew anyone getting married on Halloween, wouldn’t this be a fun wedding card? 😀  Thanks for checking in today – hope your week’s off to a faBOOlous start!
